What are you working on right now?

Old WIP is actually starting to get into better shape. Feel comfortable working on it. Also new novel with Hand of Glory characters being outlined. And an idea concerning a rather special terraced house and its owner is taking shape.

Doing some drawing for a comic. Not sure how it'll turn out.

Hit 30K words for November - though dropped out of NANOWRITEMO.

439 of those words were on one story, which I just wanted to get the concept/beginning down, lest I forget it when I come back to it. 20K on one novel, 10K on the other I'm working on. I feel more capable, going back and forth between the two: seems to keep my mind fresh on each of them.

Currently working on the third book in my series, while trying to promote the release of the second book in January while working the day job. Phew.

haha good for you! I used to do the paper and pen but my handwriting is so awful and I kept finding myself making so many corrections that it made so much more sense typing on the laptop for me. Whatever works though!

It's interesting you say that about working on the two novels. I was thinking about doing the same but was worried about falling behind on one book compared to the other. How do you best balance the two?

I like working on multiple projects at once, because my mind gets bored, if it's working on one story for too long. I'll start with the one that's on my mind. Then, when I sense my mind wandering, I'll take a short break (to clear my mind), then start on the other.

The only deadlines I have are the ones I put on myself (and still miss regularly), so there's no one breathing down my neck! :D

I sort of work on multiple novels. I have one that is basically in post-production now (mucking about with marketing), one that I'm writing, and doing some very preliminary research for the next one. But I don't think I've actually been *writing* two at once. Sometimes another story has intruded on the current one. Each time that has happened, I've suspended work on the novel to write the short story (or novelette). I get that one submitted out, then return to the novel.

I definitely like that, because I find myself sometimes forcing the writing. Whereas if I take a short break like you said I let my brain reset and find my writing is better quality. Thanks for the food for thought!

More comic drawing. On the 'proper' writing front, I need to have a look at a full draft of Crown of Blood to get a clear picture of what needs changing.

Also, despite becoming quite good at naming things in books and short stories, I've rediscovered my ancient rubbishness at naming things for the comic. Undecided on the title and only 50% on the main character name. The only person whose name I'm certain about is Albert Shopkeep, who is a very minor character and I could go without naming entirely (and, I think, whose name is never actually mentioned in dialogue).

I like working on multiple stories at once too. Though yesterday I edited and added to 5 different short stories, and found it quite difficult switching between the different mindsets/voices e.g. from a Senegalese musician who heals people with his music, to a guy trying to resurrect his wife for not-so-good reasons, to a teenage girl who wants to be a wrestler. Maybe 5 a day is a bit much, unlike fruit and veg.

Hi,

Put out The Dotard just before Christmas, now trying to do the paperback. Also writing a new book tentatively titled: Fineas and Tusk - The Epic Journey of a Man and His Pig.

Cheers, Greg.

My first book topped off at 203k before I cut it down to 109k. It's all in the learning.

I'm currently working on book four of my Hope Island Chronicles, Pursuit Course.
