thank you, starbeast!!!

(does happy dance) starbeast you made my weekend with your stupendous review.. thankyou so very very much :)

You're immensely welcome Jastius. Glad I made your weekend. You go girl. It's your birthday, it's your birthday, go Jastius, go Jastius!

Death/Fantasy
(part five)

Crystal Haven - Astonishingly cool horror story. This would make a great episode for the classic tv series, The Night Gallery. And you've chosen a title that resonates your story perfectly. I love it.

Alex, The G and T - I really enjoyed your tale about Death trying to fit in our world of the living, excellent concept. And you've wrote him a befitting place to be, involved in Death Metal Music. Rock on Alex!

Brev - Justice is served piping hot in this dark offering. If there's one thing I've learned from movies, is that you never taunt an angry mob that wants to kill you, even if you are immortal. Mu-ha ha ha ha. Morbidly marvelous.

Nice story, Alex, Slayer would be proud of the company!! :) And great conclusion to your tale, Brev, very nice!

Many apologies that my (well Mort's) comments seem to have tailed off suddenly.

IN one of those strange ironies in the month that we have a challenge centred on the word 'Death' not only do we have more entries than we have had in ages but (and for those of you that know what I do for a living will see the humour in this) we are currently busier than we have ever been at work, and I'm off my feet.

Mort will be back...

Now I'm wondering if I could have written a story about Death at the Tax Office...:)

Being an accountant I've spent some time in tax offices and I've often wondered if there were Zombies behind the counters. And knowing your Zombie skills DOE, I've no doubt you could get a series of books going.

I'm not normally one to split hairs, but Slayer isn't really death metal, they're thrash metal. Also, fun fact, Slayer's vocalist/bassist, Tom Araya, is a catholic.

Hmm, true, but I think it is fair to say that they were one of the major influences in the rise of death metal, so maybe we can stretch the point! :)

I think that's a fair point. One could probably say they were a large influence on an entire generation of musicians in those genres. Besides, like I said, I generally don't like splitting hairs with respect to genre; whether it's technical death metal, melodeath, goregrind, metalcore, extreme industrial, or what have you, it's about the music, not the label.

And now that I think about it, I'm sure there was a good story to be written in Death/Fantasy about Chuck Schuldiner. Opportunity missed.

Hey BigJ! In fairness, I was extemporizing in my response to your note...you were correct in pointing out that Slayer was not death metal. I lived through the period and was only marginally aware of the changes in metal post Sabbath, say. I recently saw a documentary that mentioned Schuldiner...a shame his life ended so early.

Well hi there! I’m like, really sorry, but my uh... Uncle Mort has had to step out for a bit longer than he expected, and he asked me to look in on you, y’know? My name’s Didi, by the way, but y’can call me Dee if you wish, now I’ll show you to some of the cool cats around here!

hope - Well hey, this is a cool cyclical story that sees an inevitable death followed by life, followed by death. Reincarnation, like incredible creature after incredible creature, only with any chance of peace comes more pain and death. It’s sorta sad, but inevitable y’know.

TitaniumTi - Someone who can’t die. Others might say that they have been blessed with immortality, but they don’t know what it is like do they? Going on and on, perhaps no matter how powerful they are, how long they have gone there is some part that just wants the pain of life to end. But who knows when and if they will get their wish?

Parson - Wow! I mean, like wow! I think this might be one of those things that touches on a huuuuge truth. People fear death, they really do, and there is no real reason for it. Oh, there are those that give death the aspect of something to fear, but that’s only ‘cos they don’t get it. In truth death is just something that happens. And a great quote that shows just how it all should be seen. Right? Right?

TDZ - Oh brother! I just loved this one, like someone who just does not get the situation they are in and carry on about all the things that they think are important, not getting it. Nothing is important any more. The number of times I’ve seen something lik... Anyway, onto the next guest.

BM - Allow me to let you on a little secret, this actually happened. Really, I read about is somewhere. Some idiots tried to kill death. Can you imagine the disaster if they succeeded? This tale brings more than a little humour with it, and it made me giggle!

ethelredtheunredy - Well hey, there is nothing wrong with a little bit of necromancy! And what we have here is a little snapshot of the way things might have been. Or might be. It’s often hard to tell which. A great little piece that calls up days gone by, with a little charm and a dash of macabre.

AJB - They say that while there is life there is hope. But what do you gain from holding off death eh? Nothing good I’m sure of that. I mean, there is all that uncertainty and stuff, at least when the lights go out for real you get to grieve and then go on. What’s that ‘while there is life there’s hope.’ Puh-lease!

Lonewolfwanderer - Here we go! See? This is what it is all about, a life well lived, maybe a bit long, a bit painful at times, but in the end it is not about a grim reaper and all that dark jazz, no, it’s the final peace that death brings. And this little ditty really divers with the last line. But hey, in every life it is the last line that delivers.

Chris - Well I say. Oooh matron! I guess it must be true that death has many guises, for all we know on top of a nurse it might appear as an old skinny guy or some chirpy little chick! I’m sure there are those that might read some form of political comment within these words, but it doesn’t really matter does it? As I’m sure you have realised, no matter how you fight or ward off death, it gets you in the end.

SirSamuelVimes - Wow! I mean, like, this story is a bit different isn’t it. A sword that has had a bloody career, a death bringer extraordinaire, and a grizzled warrior. I can guess that there might be some empathy between the two, perhaps even a bit of projection. The snapping of the sword somewhat symbolic of the warrior hoping it will all end?

Perp - Oh my goodness! What is he blathering on about now? Someone should gag the guy! I mean really! And what kind of name is Perpetual Man anyway? Someone who thinks they go on and on and on. Well I guess he does at that...

Right I got to take a break guys, great meeting you, great party and all that.... I might not be back, so have fun and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!

:D:D After a day with 3 meetings, 4 nursing home calls, and 14 hours of work. It was nice to waste a few minutes today on Chrons and then I see this glorious review! Thanks Perp!!

Thanks Perp, I barely got out of there alive, but was saved by reincarnationists, who would have been out of a job...;).
