Not open for further replies.
It was far more difficult to narrow down this list of favorites, than to eliminate those last 7-8 words to reach 75, but here goes...

TSP--fine story, great technique
hopewrites--haunting story, really lovely
Brev--terrific tale, great twist at the end
Starbeast--truly hilarious, and easily the best sound effects in the competition!
SleepyDormouse--really beautiful story, this is my runner-up

Favorite...crystal haven--so well written, this really got to me.

Blimey. Not easy. They’re all so good.
I particularly enjoy humour and the plays on words or ideas that have come out here, so my shortlist became

Alchemist ----- for his taxi/hearse drivers
Martin321. --- I’ve always had a soft spot for Cerberus
Holland’s ----- modern sirens
Starbeast’s --- trilogy
Ursa’s --------- spelling game

But also
Cat’s Cradle
SirSamuelVimes
Mosaix
------------------ who all hit me right in the compassioncircuit.

And then
Hope’s -------- cycle of mythical creatures.

I'm sorry ye others but I’ve voted for Starbeast, especially for the sound effects and for mom having to back up to get the squirrel.

Glad you enjoyed my story farntfar :)

With so many great entries, I managed to narrow it down to two: "All Souls, Or None" by Karn Maeshalanada and "Reap what you Reap" by Brev.

In the end I voted for "All Souls, Or None" by Karn Maeshalanada, though it was a really tough decision.

waking up to three mentions? this is the best Tuseday-eve ever!
Thanks big D, I'm glad you enjoyed my circle of death ;)
Thanks Cat's Cradle, it stuck in my mind as well *shivers* the idea itself came in a flash and had 6 mythical beasts to begin with, each with their own ironic death and individualized self-realizations. I picked the one that hit me the hardest to center the story on.
Thanks Farntfar, my own category :D

Firstly thank you for the lovely reviews Victoria and Perpetual Man. Much appreciated.
Than you also to Cat's Cradle for placing my piece as runner up! :)

My shortlist.

Hex - I loved the idea of a teenage Death trying to fit in.
Karn - heart-wrenching story.
David Evil Overlord - Poor Death can't even take a holiday without having to work!
Hopewrites - I can see this being an endless cycle. I wonder what comes next after a griffin.
Crystal Haven wonderfully haunting.
Ursa Major - ah the huge consequence of a simple slip.

My Vote:
Teresa Edgerton - Beautiful and haunting. I can't help but wonder what will happen to the prince.

Mentions must go to:
Springs because don;t we all feel like that when we must execute a character?
Teresa, a beautiful variation on a fairytale.
Sirsamuelvimes, I loved this for it's last line.

My vote goes to SleepDoormouse with Summers End; simply beautiful.

Bowler1 thank you for the mention, it means alot.

Thanks Glen, I needed that.

Thanks also to, Hope, Victoria, Starbeast and Perp, hope you all got a chuckle from my story.

Bob

Thanks for the mention Quellist!

My favorites, difficult as they were to pick, are as follows.
Hex: I was incredibly interested at the aspect of Death being a teenage boy.
Teresa Edgerton: A haunting tale that's ending caught me off guard.
Aun Doorback: A gripping tale, it's ending left me wondering.
Alchemist: The irony of this tale made me laugh out loud.

My vote goes to Teresa Edgerton. I really enjoyed the death themed story which put a haunting spin on a fairy tale.

(What an exciting way to wake up in the morning as I stagger from my bed to the computer.)

Thank you for the mentions, springs, Bowler, DEO, and Quellist.

And thank you very much for the votes, SleepyDormouse, and SirSamuelVimes!

______

I read the stories as they were posted, but I need to read through them more carefully before I decide on a short list and vote.

Short list (*shorter list) and ****vote****

Victoria -- Coin of the Realm
****Juliana -- Agents of D.E.A.T.H****
*Alchemist -- Death Rides a Black Cab
*Aun Dorback -- Lamp it or leave it
TSP -- A Voice Beyond
*TDZ -- Deathwatch
Boneman -- Dead Unlucky
Ethelredtheunredey -- Old Things
*BigJ -- Five Card Stud on the River Styx
Jastius -- Death's Maiden
Mosaix -- It comes to us all...
Kiffinyjean -- the upside
*TJ -- Revenge of a Goddess

So many fabulous entries this month, and lots I loved that I haven't listed because it was starting to get silly.

Thank you so much for the mentions. They make me very happy :)

Thank you to Bowler1, Cat's Cradle and to holland for the mentions.

Soo many stories to read...and that's not a complaint. :)

A difficult subject this month. And chrons rose to the challenge once again.
My picks this month...

Distinctly Honorable Mentions

Hex - How is it you understand the psyche of undead, ghosties and such so well? Scratch that! I don't want to know.

Teresa Edgerton - A sad, but romantic little tale. How do you do it in so few words?

Ann Doorback - An excellant tale of caution and morality.

The Spurring Platty - Really niffy story. A first class, spooky homage to true love.

David Evil Overlord - Clever, enjoyable take on a punny subject.

Also in the Running

HareBrain - Eternal life, followed by death which sustains life!(?) Crazy, cool stuff man.

hopewrites - Succinctly sums up the whole idea of reincarnation. The violent death of such a symbol of peace leading to rebirth as a super carnavour is simply brillant.

Parson - Fantasic job setting the mood, plus powerful use of powerful words. Very good, sir.

Vote Winner

SirSamuelVimes - I absolutely loved the karma statement of the warrior ending the strife of his father's sword, while knowing he himself must fight on.
