No need for a PM: I've removed that vote. (The name may** still appear against it, but I can't tell as it only lets you see who has voted when it has recorded a vote.)

I believe the procedure now is to not allow you to cast another vote (because you only had one vote, and you've already cast it).

** - We've never had to remove the first vote before.

Death/Fantasy
(part nine)

The Judge - Love between humans and incredible immortal beings doesn't always end well. Much like love on Earth, it can end tradgically and scar a person deeply into the heart. You've captured the drama, tremendously spot on.

Abernovo - Your story pertaining to Norse mythology is showcased marvelously, and shines like mithril silver. I always delight at the presence of the diabolical Loki lurking near in epic tales such as yours. Very well crafted sir.

Ursa Major - Inexperiance in any form can lead to problems, and so it is in your fine offering. I can't help but to think of the character Ash, from the movie Army of Darkness, when he misspoke a spell. A slice of mirth served extra cool.

Culhwch - Mu-ha ha ha ha ha. Yes indeed, another story, with a touch of comedy punctuated at the end makes this a dark treat. Always becareful of what you wish for, because the fault can lie within the clarity of the details. Zombified fun.

Certainly Ursa Major.

Now, let's see how long it's going to take me to figure out a winner amongst so many astonishing tales.

wow except for poor ben's false step, no one else has entered the ring..

reminds me of my first high school dance. no one on the floor.. until us wild and crazy girls started the bunny hop conga line...

if no one votes does everyone win? :D

looks nervously at her post count and gets back to heaving together "the disaster of the moment"

(i refuse to dignify it with the title of "work in progress" since it mostly consists of dislodging a mountain of fertilizer using the editing equivalent of pick axes and dynamite... lots of dynamite)

This is more than fair!

I'm very curious to see what the results are going to be, we had so many original entries.

The name is gone, Ursa. It seems to me that when we have had to remove a vote in the past the name remained, but it is certainly gone now. I don't know why it should be different this time.

I had a nice, relaxing read-through last night ( and caught up with the late-comers this morning) and here are the results of the Springs' jury:

Hex - I loved the fresh voice
Martin 321 - Cerbie, so adorable. It's hard to know which set of ears to scratch first.
Teresa - I loved the rhythm and imagery
TSP - really clever
DEO - a funny busman's that made me laugh
Crystal Haven - I thought this was a great idea, beautifully executed.

I went for Martin's, which I really enjoyed. :)

Well here we all are, as the music turns soft, the inebriation grows, the minutes slips slowly away, the party slowly winds down and we welcome the last few guests.

Phyre - A different and well thought out idea, that mixes history and classic art, to give an unusual but effective take on the theme. There is some wonderful imagery used here, and just as it should be death is most strongly present.

TJ - Classic mythology now as we learn the story of what it is to defy (or indeed anything at all to upset the gods, particularly Zeus). Keeping someone alive forever and not changing would ultimately be bad enough, but feeling the weight of the passing years and still not dying... Well that’s just torture.

Aber - a nice twist on mythology as we see two armies drawn into conflict through the machinations of Loki. It’s a clever twist, and a slight reworking of Arthurian legend, it could even be that classic final battle with the trikster in the Morgana role.

Ursa - Oft has it been said that life and death are the opposite sides of the same coin. And you know what it could well be true. Perhaps if there was such a thing as an anthropomorphic representation of such a concept then they might even be the same thing. Of course, life unending might not be the blessing one hoped for.

Cul - And we finish with a very sinister story. People do seem to jump into these things without considering the consequences. A man who would be king may find that the sting in the tale is but the first of many....

And there we go my friends the party is at an end. I trust that you have enjoyed yourselves, and meeting all the people here well.... What an experience eh? But now it is time to go. What? Oh no my friends we all leave together, this is but a step and the party never ends, out through a different exit than the one through which we came.

Just be excited about what you find on the other side.

I’ll be a long shortly. I have one last task. I’ll just lock the door and turn off all the lights.

GOODNIGHT.

Hmm, there may be a problem with the poll's tallying system...Ben's vote showed as a vote for himself, and now Spring's vote for Martin has appeared as a vote for Springs herself (unless I am seeing things wrong). I shall send a note to a moderator...CC

Apologies, I may be wrong about the polling error...just ignore this!

Thanks for the lovely reviews, Starbeast and Perp. :)

My shortlist:

Hex, Alchemist, Aun, HareBrian, TDZ and Boneman, with the vote going to Boneman.

I thought that there were a couple of well written entries this month that didn't quite meet the criteria of being a story.

A good start by Hex. Others I liked were Quellist, Martin321, Teresa, Aun, TSP (a great idea), Perp, BigJ, Brev and Kittyjean.

I got stuck between Mosaix and Judge, two very different ideas. In the end I went with Judge, but by a narrow margin only Mosaix, it was real close.

I'd love to hang around but I've got 60 voters to rally. It's a tough job (says Bowler1 pulling out a RAY GUN), but someone has got to do it. Right you (ZZZAAAAPPP) and you too (ZZAAAPPPPP), get a move on....

Shortlist:

Culhwch - Be careful what you wish for.
Hopewrites – A born-again unicorn...or is it a griffin?
Boneman – A cunning plan, with just one slight flaw.
Jastius – A Valkyrie in love with life.
Starbeast – A trilogy in 75 words! With cool sound effects!
Teresa Edgerton – Some crimes will not stay buried.
Springs – A murder familiar to many writers.

Vote:

The Spurring Platty – For clever formatting that doesn’t kill the story...um, dead.

Ooh, I'm on a shortlist. Thank you, Springs. :)

And thank you, Perp, for the review.

And it really is appreciated, Starbeast, Victoria, and Perpetual Man for doing these reviews. I really enjoy reading all the reviews done for everyone. :)

  • HareBrain - Hmmmmmm, eeaaagle.
  • ethelredtheunredey - poetic, visual, visceral.
