Discussion thread -- SEVENTY-FIVE WORD WRITING CHALLENGE May 2014

You're welcome Ben! AND...goodnight everyone...it's past midnight here in Finland, so I'm living in the future world of May 24th! Best of luck to one and all in the Challenge voting!!

StilLearning -- This exciting tale of adventure captures the thrills of the best of classic pulp fiction.

StilLearning - Heh heh. Suppressed archaeology about ancient astronauts. I love it. Plus, I got a kick out of your reveal that they are still among us, secretly taking over. Funny, freaky and, this goes beyond a great UFO documentary. Outworldly cool.

My thanks for the kind words both of you, I'm just glad it was comprehendible!

The Judge -- By letting what is left unsaid carry the most important theme of the story, the author forces us to consider our own potential for destructiveness.

paranoid marvin -- This stirring ballad has an unexpected sting in its tail.

Howdy Friends,
I was not able to get my story in this month, I did have a good one in mind but could not find a good finish for it.
After MANY visits to the doctors and hospitals I could not concentrate. I will be going in the hospital June 10th for complete removal of my bladder and prostate. I have 4 more pre-op visits before than, heart doctor, urologist, wound care, stoma nurse and on and on.
I will be laid up for some time depending on how it goes.
I hope I can read all the stories and get my vote in, if not please know that I did try.

Parson, if you could move me up a few spots on your long list of special cases I would sure appreciate it.

Hope to talk to you all soon.

Bob

Thanks for the mini-reviews, Victoria and Starbeast. :)

You're gigantically welcome Ursa Major.

You'll have to bare with me, I took two years of Spanish Language Class, then forget it all several years later. Everyone I know speaks english (or slang - I perfer proper english). When I was in the Army, I learned to speak German, then I forgot all I knew years later.

You take all the time you need my friend. You're in my prayers too. I talk to God daily.

Alien Invasion/Classic Sci-Fi
(part five)

The Judge - Whoa. That was deep, dramatic, intense, shocking and thought-provoking. Humans always seem to fear, then attack what we don't understand. We're still just children in this universe, and frightened by anything or anyone who is different. Excellent.

Paranoid Marvin - That was powerful, it and said a great deal about us humans. You did a spectacular job of displaying our darkside, exposing the savage that dwells deep inside the blackest pit of our minds. You did it so eloquently with a flowing rhyme. Outstanding poem sir.

Wow! What a wonderful set of stories there is here on this theme. Thank you everyone for writing and publishing them.

Now it's down to decisions, decisions, decisions.... and it's going to very difficult.

Okay, here we go again.
Honorable mentions:
Tywin - Perp - Victoria - Beasty - Teresa - Ursa.

With due respect to all of the great entries one story hit me between the eyes. Combining two classic movies into one very clever story had me searching for a contender. For sheer adherence to the topic my vote goes to
Aun Doorback. Well done.

Bob, I'm thinking about you.

Okay, this was a toughie. I did veer towards fifties style cheesy (in the most complimentary manner) sci fi guys, I'm afraid, in my choices, although I found Victoria's a very good eg of classic social-commentary sci fi and liked it very much.

My shortlist in the end were

A Fare Wells, the classic nooooo! Moment
Aun Doorback, Invasion of the Body-Snatchers ahoy
Alchemist's naughty classic-roles take (reminded me a lot of Ray Bradbury)
And Cul's lovely classic take.

Anyway, it had to go to the Mr Springs blind-listening jury for assistance and being the traditional kind of guy he is, he thought I should never have an excuse not to iron his shirt (despite 20 years of never having such a thing presented to him.) so, between that and the Ray-esque feel, Alc got my vote.
