DISCUSSION -- June 2014 75 Word Writing Challenge

I started by eliminating anything involving time travel or blatantly alternative history - not overjust, mayhap, but having attempted to stay within…

Which left me wit a shortish list of:- crystal haven, mosaix, Mr Orange, Perpetual Man, Remedy, Starbeast, telford, Teresa Edgerton and The Judge. I finally went for Remedy's clay army, despite the attraction of the Gatling gun, the dark snake and Bluebeard's serial polygamy.

I would like to thank, for mentions, johnnyjet, martin321, Mr Orange and Phyrebrat, and even more, for the votes, Mosaix and Serendipity. I didn't think mine this month was a great success, but at least it was comprehensible. I hope. :D

Hey, wait a minute, I didn't have any time travel or alternative history! :D

(Yes, there were probably other layers of elimination that you didn't mention....)

I've got my lists sorted out, with a similar elimination process:

telford -- Headline Grabber
Victoria -- One Small Step
mosaix -- Now You See It...
Teresa -- A True Story
MatterSack -- The Dead Man
*Tywin -- Comanche Moon*
johnnyjet -- Chamber of Honors
Juliana -- The Ballad of Mary Read
chrispy -- Eureka!
Culhwch -- The Original Sin

Thanks for the mentions, Jonnyjet, Chrispy and Dusty. Also a big thanks to Mosaix for the final.

I survived Chris' cull! Thanks for the mention!

The run of recent comments though have made me think about historical fiction and alternative history: just where do you draw the line?

Maybe an interesting conversation after voting closes.

Talking of which have I voted yet?

Nasty way of removing stories from the running, but I can no longer rely on people getting the grammar wrong.

So, according to my list, which at this point could be faulty, no, thou hast not yet voted; my selection of not yets contains:- Ashleyne. B. Watts, Flyerman11, Glen, Hex, jastius, JonH, lonewolfwanderer, paranoid marvin, Perpetual Man, StilLearning, Teresa Edgerton, The Judge, The Spurring Platty and Ursa major.

Thank you Dusty Zee for the mention and, as I was updating the list I noticed AMB's stealth vote. Three! I might not be in the lead, but am solidly in the follow up group.

And thanks to:- Abernovo, HareBrain, Martin 321, Phyrebrat, and The Storyteller for voting despite not having submitted. Appreciated.

Thank for all mentions, and (Hell's Bells!) a vote! (Thx Hex).

My vote went to Cat's Cradle for reminding us all of something important. My favourites (and one notable un-favourite), are:

  • farntfar - Blue Peter!
  • Cat’s Cradle - History of Politics
  • Victoria Silverwolf - A twist in recent history
  • mosaix - close shave
  • Teresa Edgerton - atmospheric, practical history
  • Glen - this iambic pentameter is crap!
  • David Evil Overlord - clever time twists

My shortlist:

telford
springs
farntfar
Bowler
Remedy
A.Farewells
Juliana
Chris
and Jastius.

I did not have the time to be strict about anything, but one really tickled me, and although others were excellent, I gave the vote to telford.

(my character was 100% historical, so I suspect -- like TDZ suggested -- Chrispy may have had other means of eliminating entries (shocker!))

Johnnyjet and perp, thanks for the votes.

(Mine was real and historical, but the character wasn't technically fictional, I suppose, Chrispy.)

Sorry springs hope you meant mentions, cause I voted for telford :(
