Once again I find it an impossible task to come up with a short list. Instead I'll just list my votes.

"A Fairy Tale" by Juliana

"Nobility" by JoanDrake

"Seasons of Joy, Seasons of Wither" by Perpetual Man

I'm afraid I'm with Victoria here. Only three votes? Not fair. Great entries from everyone. Well done. Anyhoo ...
Mr Orange, Holland and TJ got my votes.

My votes go to:

Mouse
mosaix
The Judge

Good job, everyone, it was really hard to choose.

I shortlisted

Void, for a clever tale
Alchemist, for a nice sci fi take and a killer last line
Teresa for sheer poetry
Darkchrome for a memorable tale
Ratsy's nice take on the picture
And A.Fare Wells lovely story tellimg

Ratsy, teresa and a fare wells got my vote. :)

I wake up...it's November now *turns the furnace on* and I see not 1...not 2...but 3 votes!! Thank you so much Taly and Springs :) ( and mysterious voter who I haven't check yet)

I was going to limit myself to 10 listings in total, but that proved impossible, so here a few more than 10...

Shortlist:
springs--Remedy--Juliana--Victoria--Harebrain--farntfar--ratsy--Phyrebrat--Glen--The Judge--Ursa

Votes:
Void...Robert Mackay...Teresa. Loved each of these from first to last reading. Well done all, a great challenge! And THANK YOU to Laura for a lovely painting for inspiration! Good luck to all in the voting! CC

You're welcome, Ursa! It was thisclose, with your story...if I had a fourth vote, it would have gone to Journey by Night. I really enjoyed your story, CC

Thanks, Mr Orange, for the vote! That's awesome. I promise never to mention oranges in anything but a positive light.

And thanks for the nice commentary, Victoria.

I'm still reading. Too many excellent entries. It's going to be another tough one...
