** not sure if that translates into American! It's (old-fashioned) slang for getting arrested, presumably from the coppers' habit of pulling on the collar of the ne'er-do-well.

Im not sure the last line of ratsy's story was supposed to be dark comedy, but I found it slightly funny. Overall very good story. I thought it took the idea of 'choosing love' and turned it on its head.
