Discussion - March 2015 100-Word Anon Writing Challenge (#5)

Congratulations, Crystal!

I've voted but not got around to guessing yet. I see Ashleyne has guessed I wrote two of the stories. (y)
And I was wrong on both accounts. I guess most of the names by intuition. I have a rubbish intuition. I was surprised to get J.L Borstlap's correct, though.

A massive thanks, Hex and DG Jones, for the votes. Thanks for the Listings, Cascade and CC. Thank you,Victoria and even more thanks to you for the amazing reviews.

I love these anonymous challenges. Can't wait for the next one. You've left some big shoes, CC.

Thanks CC for doing a wonderful hosting job!!!

Congrats Crystal for the win! and Robert quit stealing all our votes ;)

A couple of you guessed my story!!! It was a strange idea I had, about a street orphan hearing that blood made you family. So he went out and selected 'family memebers' and by that he killed them, collected their blood in mason jars and lined his shelf...quite demented even by my standards. But then I read everyone else's stories and I fit right in so thanks for not making me feel like a creep :alien:

Too cold for spiders here ! one thing to be thankful for

Wow! Thank you all so much. I'm so happy. :)

Thank you to everyone who mentioned/shortlisted my story, and a big thank you to Ratsy, Phyrebrat, Cat's Cradle, Ashleyne. B. Watts, Cascade, and ddawson for the votes.

I nearly didn't enter because the genre is not one I write, so I've surprised myself. I think the challenges are so good for pushing the boundaries and writing out of our comfort zone.

And one last, very big thank you to Cat's Cradle for making this challenge so enjoyable. I've loved reading all the stories, and Cat's hosting has complemented them beautifully.

:) You're welcome, crystal! I'm excited to see your choices of genre/theme for the next challenge! And thank you everyone for the kind words on my hosting!

And speaking of the next anonymous challenge, I thought we could discuss dates here. I have some thoughts, which I'm presenting in the form of a flight of fancy...

So, imagine this scenario: On April 1st the next 75 worder begins...on April 10th, the 300 worder opens for business. We do a tactical hold-off of the starting date for our next 100 worder. Soon, it’s April 23th...the 75 worder’s entry window is about to close; many of the challenge addicts (myself included, *sigh*) will likely have posted their 300 word stories. Challenge authors--desperate for that next story assignment, and with nowhere to turn--will be writing up random challenge stories on themes they’ve gleaned from old television science fiction shows, and then begin wandering their local communities seeking out the living, and passing out crayon-written stories on torn paper shopping bags to complete strangers in sad attempts at initiating flash-fiction battles…”137 words, genre Twilight Zone, theme missing William Shatner episodes. I’ll be feeding gremlins in the park in 30 minutes. BE THERE!!”

Suddenly, on April 24th, we open the 100 word anonymous challenge for entries! Challenge authors return home to their families and jobs, and we avoid the challenge log jam that will surely exist in early April. We carry our event’s entry window over till the 10th of May, or so. City streets become safe for strolling families and tourists once again. Just some--rather disturbing--thoughts! But I was thinking we might benefit from avoiding that early April log-jam of challenges. Does anyone have thoughts about the starting date for the next challenge? :)

Hah! :) Thanks for the kind words, Kerry! I would definitely host again, it's fun...but it might have to be in the fall. I have one of the busy summers of my life coming up, I fear, and I'd not be able to do the role of host justice. I bet we'll have a few volunteers though! And hopefully J.L. will be able to host again soon!

I have been unable to reach this place for several days, so I missed the voting. I think I would have gone with "Homework" as so many others did, for its psychological depth. Many congratulations to crystal haven.

I note that nobody correctly guessed that I wrote "Disownment." I thought the title might give it away. I'm fond of one-word abstract nouns as titles.

Many thanks to Cat's Cradle for handling this.

I have two questions...and by two, actually I mean three.
First--just to check with everyone, does the 24th of April look like a go for the next challenge? (See my post above.) We can start verifying plans maybe in another few weeks.
Second--any thoughts on the host for the next challenge? We can check with JL, unless someone else is really interested in giving it a go?
Third--Kerry, I've been meaning to ask you this all week...whatever does this cryptic sentence mean? :)
There might have been a tiny element of deception in the choice of critter...
