Discussion - March 2015 100-Word Anon Writing Challenge (#5)

First to the über talented Cascade and DG, the tiny-tiny dilemma was caused by a forgetful host...I should have explained at the beginning of the challenge this month that the red-herring author added to the author's list for guessing was there so we wouldn't have to name ourselves in the guessing-game. I think we collectively realized in the first or second challenge that it was better to have a red herring, than to attempt misdirection in our owns lists by putting our own names down opposite a story we hadn't written. There was sort of an informal rule that we wouldn't name ourselves in the guessing-game, and so we'd all automatically accept the penalty of one guaranteed wrong guess when we presented our own guessing lists. And then you two poor people come along and, as your host hadn't mentioned all of this, did the absolutely honest thing in your voting. I actually thought it was very cool of you both. :) And this is an informal little event, so no worries. I'll try to mention this informal rule in the next event, or remind whomever hosts that event to mention it.

And I will mention that it is incredibly difficult to discern the author of Homework from my list! :)

CC, I'll be absolutely frank. Whilst I wa not aware of the informal rule not to gues our own, it would be disingenuous of me to suggest that putting my name beside the story I did arose out of a desire to be honest. Rather I was intending that it be hidden in plain sight as it were, where hopefully no-one would think to look.

I thought i was being very clever.

Apologies, Cascade. I guess it's impossible to host something like this without screwing up something or other along the way. I hope it didn't seem as though I was making a big deal out of this; the guessing is honestly just for fun (the whole event is just for fun), and I was a bit flummoxed as to what to do in this situation. But I think I didn't handle it correctly, and I'm sorry about that; and I made the mistake of not explaining the red-herring concept in my original posts. Your attempt to hide in plain sight was certainly more clever than my responses to it. :) Hopefully there're no hard feelings! CC

We have a winner...Homework, by crystal haven!! Congratulations on the victory, crystal--it is a wonderful story!!

Juliana volunteered very early on to be our red herring, thank you Juliana! :) And thank you mosaix, for the inspiring genre/theme choices this month!

Here is the list of authors paired to their stories...I've included the votes received--in parenthesis--for the seven stories that garnered votes this challenge..it was a very close race! Crystal had six votes..Tywin finished second with five votes..and Robert Mackay finished third, with four votes. Starbeast's wonderful style was the most recognized in the guessing-game..I believe he was correctly associated with his own story 5 times. Everyone, please feel free to discuss your stories--inspirations, etc--or ask questions of any other author about their own entry. Great challenge everyone! And thank you all for making hosting so rewarding. See you next challenge! :) CC

Congratulations Crystal Haven

And a BIG well done to everyone who entered. I thought all of the stories were great. I'm already looking forward to the next challange!!

A bad cold was keeping me from hanging around here more often o_O, but I fought back hard against it . I'm feeling better now. Thank God. (y)

Good you're feeling better, Starbeast. :) and whooooo Crystal - I would never have picked thst out as yours (and I know your writing probably better than most.) stretch us with the theme.... :)

And 3 votes! Thanks so much. I scribbled this between juggling many various words and it was pretty much as it came to me, but I wanted to support the thread and sent it anyway, so I was delighted to get anything.

And good show, CC! Thanks for running it. :)

Congratulations Crystal! Whoo hoo!

And thank you to Cascade, CC and Crystal for the shortlistings and especially to Hex for even considering attributing Crystal's lovely story to me.

A humongous thank you to CC for running a brilliant challenge. You are a hard act to follow, my friend! I loved the wee bits of banter and the encouragement.

Eeee! Congrats Crystal! Great story.

I ended up voting for "Fitting In", because obviously Springs and I need to exchange votes. Oh, also because it made me smile, and I felt it was tapping into a more generalised sense of outsider-ness than simply being a vampire.

Thanks to everyone who voted, shortlisted or said nice things about "My Little Sister".
