Discussion -- May 2015 75-word Writing Challenge

Tywin -- The Book of Proverbs tells us that the wicked flee when no man pursueth. Yet the guilty are always pursued, by their own remorse if by nothing else. No matter where we go, we can never hide from ourselves. The conscience can be as relentless a prosecutor as Jean Valjean's nemesis Inspector Javert.

Hex -- The trauma of violence is not only suffered by individuals, but by societies. Particularly after large scale conflicts, the destruction of the natural landscape and the creations of humanity are constant reminders of the inability of our species to avoid fighting with each other. Minds can bear scars as well as bodies.

I was happily waiting for a notification to alert me about the 75 worder this month (read 'forgotten again'). This needs to be implemented (for me at least :) ) I stumbled on it this morning though and had a free lunch break.
This was so hard! Much harder than the 300, I got down to about 95 in my first draft, and needed every word. Chopping another 20 was really tough. Great practice though. I just hope it is SFF-y enough

I went the poem route, as when writing this short I find them easier. Will have to work my way up to the great prose stories that you all are putting up:)

LittleStar -- Certain emotions are too profound to be expressed directly. Instead the power of metaphor must be used. Conveying one's feelings is like an impressionistic painting rather than a photograph. One can only hope that the translucent nature of language allows the truth to shine through, avoiding opacity or transparency.

Wahey! Nice to return to a nice simple theme for the next Challenge - thanks Cul :) I look forward to putting my writing hat back on and giving this some serious thought, as well as reading through whatever delights have been served up already :)

Okay, so on my second attempt I wrote a story. 75 words straight off. Epic. Magnificent. I have never been happier with a story. ;)

Just about to post when I realised it had nothing to do with departure whatsoever.

Back to the drawing bird again.

Well that's one in the bag for later...and if you win this month you can nominate the theme of that story for next month and kill two birds with one stone :D

I have actually thought about doing that thanks Victoria, but the whole process of adding words, cutting it down might have done it more harm than good. (My excuse for saying I'm too lazy to do it... or I have another idea.....)

geronl -- As medical technology advances it becomes increasingly difficult to determine who will receive its services. The easy answer is "everyone," but that ignores the fact that resources are limited, and treatment is often extremely expensive. The art of triage is a dismal but vital one. Factors other than bioethics may determine who lives and who dies.
