Discussion - May 2015 100-Word Anon Writing Challenge (#6)

Thanks, everyone.

A special thanks to Chris, Perp, Moonbat, Holland, D.G. and Germinad for the votes.

The idea of a 'slow mirror' isn't entirely original. Many, many years ago I read a short story about 'slow glass' where a pane of the stuff had been in the window of a room where an unsolved crime had taken place. The pane was removed and stored safely and then, twenty five(?) years later all the interested parties gathered in court room to watch the thing as the crime gradually unfolded before their eyes. Isn't SF great?

Anyway I'll mull over the theme / genre for twenty four hours and then come up with something. I'll try and get my guesses up later today. In the mean time I've a got a VAT return to complete. :(

The dreaded VAT returns. Good luck x

Thanks, Kerry. It's not too bad. I've got a fairly complex spreadsheet that does all my accounting for the year, including VAT. All I have to do is key in the detail - after I've found all the receipts and invoices that is.

Yes, mosaix, I thought your idea of a "slow mirror" was a very clever twist on the "slow glass" concept. The original slow glass concept was from the classic Bob Shaw story "Light of Other Days" (1966). I think his sequel to that story, "Burden of Proof" (1967), might have been the story you remember. Not sure about that. Later he wrote a novel about the concept, Other Days, Other Eyes.

Again, congratulations!

Thanks JJ, I must look up those other stories.

Congrats Mosaix! way to go

edit: i see CC guessed me to have written your story so in a tiny, little way, I win too...:sneaky:

Well done Mosaix, it was a fabulous story. A deserved winner.

While I'm here I think it's worth mentioning the next Anonymous 100 Word Challenge.
I'll be taking the reins of responsibility (gulp) from the safe hands of Kerry and looking after it for the next month.

I have to admit, it's not an auspicious start. I'm so busy with horrid work deadlines and fun/evil stag dos over the next 4 or 5 days that I'm not going to be able to post the challenge until Monday morning. Happily, that's June 1st so at least it's a nice easy number to remember.
It will likely run for three-four weeks in June so we don't clash with the 75-worder for that month, similarly to the May challenge.

Congratulations mosaix, you God of the Unknown Challenge!! I think that's your second win? You and Robert are dominating this event! :) It's a terrific story. I think sometimes--as perhaps DG mentioned can happen--that a person can be too intent on looking for writing styles, for the guessing phase, and overlook a quality story for the voting phase. I re-read your story just now, and it's terrific, well done. Looking forward to your choices for the June Challenge...and looking forward to DG's hosting of the event! :)

What a terrific month for stories, and reviews. And what a terrific job by Kerry of hosting! Congratulations, finally, to all involved! :)

Congratulations Mosaix. It was a great story.

And thanks to Kerry for what you made a really fun challenge.
I hope to be more available soon to join in this and other threads.

Yes, it was good fun. There were poems about fascists, pictures, and some awful jokes. All excellent japes.

However, there are going to be a few changes around here from now on, so you lot had better pull your socks up.
Buchanan, cut that hair!
Ratsy, put that light out!
Cat's Cradle, get that cat out of here!
And who put that spaceship there?!

Oh yes, you can expect a tight ship to be run next month...

Congratulations mosaic!

I loved your story!... It was a runner up for me. I am still guessing.. But will post soon.
I love reading the lists of guesses. Firstly because people always put me down for stories that are better then I could ever write.. Secondly because I love to see who people think wrote my story..

I think twice in all these anonymous challenges has someone correctly guessed my story as my own. I believe this makes it a second time.. But I won't say who... But I will say yay!!! :)
