DISCUSSION -- June 2015 75-word Writing Challenge

I don't think i have a hope this month:p

Well, hope does seem to have got herself lost. But a hope for what? Winning this round, getting a vote at all, or even a mention? I'm not a slapping person, but I can understand considering self depreciation needing to be brought under control, like hysteria, or panic. But you make a choice as to what is important in these challenges - the sharp thrill of the adulation of your peers, or the deep warmth of satisfaction with something you are proud of. I know which lasts the longer.

A number of my submissions do not glean a single mention, apart from the commentaries during the writing period (which frequently inform me that I have missed my target, sown incomprehension and confusion, that I have cut them down too far, and not enough facts remain to give clues to even such an enlightened readership as this. So be it. I'll try simpler next time - unless my muse delivers something else too good to be ignored, too big to be squeezed into a seventy-five word space…

I also find the challenges addictive. There's the hope that one day -- one day -- I might write something that deserves to win.

More than that, the challenges provide quick feedback: Firstly, the wonderful reviews by Victoria, Perp and others indicate how my stories are interpreted. Secondly, the voting process and associated comments tell me about the audience appeal of my writing.

As a bonus, the word limits force me to prune my stories!

By the way, Colony is among my favourite stories, Chrispenycate.

I'm thoroughly enjoying my own personal challenge to have each 75 a snippet from the Dark Lord's world. Even more so when the theme/style is obscure (I'm hoping someone selects Georgianpunk).

I'm also happily under no impressions that I'll win a month. It would be nice but it's not the reason why I enter.

As a side effect I've tried doing something longer with the Dark Lord but just can't seem to get it to work (although he has appeared in a 300 before).

Void – An anthropomorphic tale, a race for power and dominance, a determined attempt to put a stamp on the challenge.

Cascade – A twisted tale that merges Armageddon with pop culture, with appropriate wordage and a sense of fun.

Michael Coorlim – An infinite recursive that is told with style and with a strong humour that manages to go on even after the words end.

Germinad – Be careful what you wish for. A gestalt mind made up of many, even the most determined might find themselves subsumed by the whole.

johnnyjet – when you think that you are the last hope for mankind it might be worth checking to see if there are any others who feel the same way.

I'm in!
Funny how closely tied arrivals and departures are for me. When one things leaves another thing turns up... Maybe it's just my bad plotting.

@Michael Coorlim you're story just gave me the biggest laugh I've had all week, and I watched a 'comedy' film a couple of days ago. What a situation to find yourself in!

LittleStar – Some beautiful description helps show the power of sacrifice, a parent may die so that children and others may live.

Farntfar - Liseen very carefully I shall say zis only once, an epic, brave tale that shows a totally different set of priorities.

Even more so when the theme/style is obscure (I'm hoping someone selects Georgianpunk).

Wouldn't Georgianpunk be a little too similar to Steampunk? Now, can I (re)introduce you to the concept of Agripunk ;) How about this: If I win, I promise to set a genre of Georgianpunk, if you win, you set one for supernatural horror :D - okay that's putting the cart before the horse seeing as neither of us have won a 75 word yet but...

And speaking of supernatural horror (crowbar, crowbar) can I draw everyone's attention to the FREE-TO-ENTER!!! June photo challenge, which has a theme of 'Eerie' this month! (yep, that was me.)

Beaujolais nouveau, one of the finer things? Somebody must be joking:)

I'm partial to a nice Beaujolais come the end of November! Am I being chavvy then? If it gets me off the chav hook, I also love a red which was an exclusive but is no longer available - all I recall is that the label was a Toulouse Lautrec print.

Anyway, enough OT from me. I have three ideas so I think I may be in with an entry this month.

An interesting thing about that series:
You may remember that there was a character, who would arrive always on set with the words, 'Tis I, LeClerc!

Well in France there is a large chain of supermarkets called E. Leclerc, who have an own brand for clothing etc. which is called TisSaia. (Et alors: TisSaia, LeClerc.)

The brand was created in 1991, so I can only assume that the whoever gave it that name (perhaps Edouard himself) was a fan.

Thank you for your reviews Victoria and Perp.
And Chrispy, I have to agree with your opinion of le nouveau. But as a marketing ploy it was a stroke of genius.

Karn – A classic case of misdirection that grows with the story, turning the whole thing on its head by the end. Nasty humans!
