Yay! Thank you everybody for the messages - I'm genuinely delighted to get my maiden win under my belt
Thank you to the ten (10!!!
) heroes who voted for me, ensuring that I wasn't biting my fingernails throughout yesterday in nervous anticipation.
After my entry for last month - an attempted epic sprawl through history - deservedly crashed and burned, I wanted to do something very simple, and very human, and that's where the idea came from. I was very happy with the story (unlike last month), and would've been even if it hadn't got any votes or mentions.
Ahhh, you say that now but there's an unwritten rule that the winner has to get in the first six rounds at tomorrow's meeting AND give a speech for the Iris folk...
Hmm. Not sure about the first
six rounds. Seems a tad exploitative on people giddy on victory. However, if the Iris people are happy to have me, I'll give them a speech they'll never forget.
A nice, simply told tale, with pathos,
Thanks, Drof. That's exactly what I was going for, and hopefully just a teensy bit of a different angle on the deception theme.
Oh, which reminds me - thanks to
@Kerrybuchanan for choosing such a great theme which produced another huge number of quality entries. Well done!
Really? I'm shocked. I did not see that one coming.
You say that, but until yesterday evening I was waiting for the inevitable comeback from Ratsy or VB, the latter of whom I must face tonight for beers and magnanimity.
(Also gives me a chance to coerce you into choosing not-fantasy or not-scifi for the next month's genre)
Don't worry Ph, I am thinking of breaking the chain of SFF genres we've had for the last 3 or 4 months. I shan't do my reveal yet, but I will say that you lot should be very grateful that I'm not using my wife's suggestion for theme and genre - it was an absolute stinker!
Thanks again for the kind words, votes and innumerable mentions - I really am bowled over
Right. Time to get a coffee, a muffin, and just
bask for a while
