DISCUSSION -- August 2015 75-word Writing Challenge

One of the darker episodes from the Age of Revolution is depicted in chilling detail in this offering from Bowler1. Without undue commentary, we see and feel the tragic paradox of one oppressive regime replacing another.

I'm in, finally! It's taken this long to get inspired... So I've been avoiding this thread and the entries. But today I came up with a rough idea while I was sitting in the library parking lot (oddly enough) so now I've been catching up with all the stories and comments. A really nice lot of stories! And a tough genre.

@Juliana, you should read Manda Scott's new book, Into the Fire. It is a split - time historical novel about Jeanne. I haven't read it yet, just the sample, but it's on my tbr pile as I love her stuff (and I used to be friends with her, years back, when we were both vets, so it's good to get a chance to plug her book).

In this shadowy corner, dimly lit as if from within, we find this bit of insight into an event which still mystifies historians, courtesy of Juliana. It is a lesson well worth pondering that courage is a gift not bestowed upon all.

Well for what is going to be my first post in nearly a month I apologise if this is a little long and goes off subject. I've been drawn away from you wonderful people a little bit recently thanks to all the normal things that get in the way, life (death if you know what I do for a living), a change in medication that has zonked me out a bit, a large personal project that I've been procrastinating with for far too long, not to mention the garden that is something else that really needs my attention.

It means that I have not been able to do the things I meant to here, including the comments on the challenges (Victoria's this month have been absolutely brilliant), or even adding taking part in the discussion and I have been limited to stealth votes. I've let sl;ip my Blake's 7 watching (which is another thread), and indeed the comic thread about the changes to the Marvel Universe. Any one who was following any of these - I will get back to them.

I had a few ideas when I saw the excellent and different theme this month, but it took me a while to come up with an idea. After I had it I had to squeeze the time in to do it right, but it was an entertaining and educational experience and it gave me an idea for another 75 word story, featuring a prominent member of the Chrons. It's well over 75 words at the moment, but I'll put it up in it's badly edited form, or improve it slightly after the voting is done.

Anyway, you asked for historical fiction...

all the normal things ..
I KNEW there was something wrong with me:cool::D

<<featuring a prominent member of the Chrons>>
Leave me alone,willya?:p

This was bad manners, actually, editing a post after you pushed the "like" button.
**Chrons police takes him away, handcuffed;they mutter about "a night in the slammer"

I DID start to wonder,Tim.I'm not a big believer in alien abductions, but still...

In this display we pay honor to all those who have fallen in battle, with this tribute to one such of the early 19th century from Robert Mackay, who adds a touch of eternity to the tale by making use of a narrator who personifies an abstract concept.

Lovers of literature are apt to be delighted by this beautifully illuminated manuscript provided by Tim James. It is well worth the reader's while to penetrate the Middle English to find a noble paean to a great author.

Far off in a distant corner we enter the realm of pure myth; but is it not true that myths form our character, and our character forms our history? In any case, the stately poem etched at the base of this statue, executed by Void in the classic style, provides much foo for thought.

Oh, dear. Counting three of us last-minuters, that only gets us to 41. Anyone else out there, frantically honing something?

And err... what was the theme again? :D
