DISCUSSION -- August 2015 75-word Writing Challenge

There's me. But it will have to be Sunday and the silly Greenwich mean time comes so early here

Oh, yay! You can do it! Now we know that if we break the rule of 42 for the first time ever, it's all your fault. :D

According to my little list we can hope for:- A. Fare Wells, AJB, BigJ, David Evil Overlord, Germinad, HareBrain, Hex, Moonbat, mosaix, Parson, Remedy, Sancho, Starbeast, StilLearning, The Judge, and Ursa major. Additionally, there were only two newcomers this month, the lowest in some time. Actually, there are several hundred more we could hope for (like Crystal Haven, jastius, Mad Alice, Marmalade, Michael Coorlin and Teresa) , but those seem the most profitable to bully, if you see what I mean.

Whew! We're saved. I should have realized mosaix wasn't in yet, and he and BrisGirl have rescued 42, since Ursa won't let us down.

Ursa won't let us down. That's an order.

I'm in and ahead of Greenwich Mean Time. (I had to look it up.)

If you think about it, no wonder we're always so rushed when the standard time is some sort of hording, miserly, mean time....

Anyway, I'm in (which is a minor miracle given that I still didn't have a story -- well, even the slightest hint of a germ of an idea -- until just before the latest Midsomer Murders came on the TV).

I've voted first. A first for me, I think. In the end it seemed to me that almost everyone hit the genre of "Historical Fiction" in good shape, but for some I had to struggle to find where the theme of "authority" came in.

Short list
Johnyjet: "An Image of God...."
Little Star: "A Revolution Born"
Juliana: "And so, to Ashes"
TheDustyZebra: "Starr Chamber"

Contenders:
Chrispenycate: "Yurt Licit
Tim James: "Taking the Reigns"
Culhwch: "The Heretic's Trial"

Voted for:
Phyrebrat: "Burning Bread"

According to my little list we can hope for:- A. Fare Wells (posted at the last minute), AJB, BigJ, David Evil Overlord, Germinad, HareBrain, Hex, Moonbat, mosaix, Parson, Remedy, Sancho, Starbeast, StilLearning, The Judge, and Ursa major (posted, last minute as ever).

AJB, BigJ, David Evil Overlord, Germinad, HareBrain, Hex, Moonbat, mosaix, Parson, Remedy, Sancho, Starbeast, StilLearning and The Judge - what a superb list. Battery packs are fully charged and I have my super special sniper RAY RIFLE for this.

The sound of Bowler1 running off into the under growth (the natural habitat said creatures, more so when camouflage outfits (do I look fat in this?) have just been purchased) to manic laughter (another normal behaviour and Bowlers are known to laugh in a worrying way all the time), as it disappears from sight - but with sights set!

I have yet to read all the posts, but it seems to be a low score on the doors this month. Holiday season I guess, but hardy an excuse I'd say. I'll be back to vote a little later.

I've put my RAY RIFLE down to quickly vote and comment as follows.

Kerry, Culhwch, Juliana and StilLearning all get mentions - well done.

Alchemist, TDZ and BrisGirl (a very good idea and welcome to Chrons) were all seriously considered for a vote, but as I have only one, hard luck.
The Bear gets your vote instead for a moment in history turned into a nice little heist - good job.

Back to my stalking now, there is a big list I have to shoot my way through. However, cross off StilLearning, you have posted I now see. You have no idea how lucky you are!

The three that almost got a vote from me: KyleAW, Chrispenycate and Mosaix. However the spirited little suffragette of AnyaKimlin's 'What do we want' pushed her way to the front and demanded, and got, my vote :)!

Just found out I actually have a vote. Quite amazed as the quality of writing seems so high from so many, thank you mystery voter :)

As to my vote... still not sure, there are a coupe I'm torn between. I'll decide later :D

Edit: Just say mine is as of yet untitled... *sigh* forgot that bit.

It is called Stood Alone. No idea if the poll can be updated but hay, it's my fault it's not on there!

Many thanks for the vote, Bowler1. :):)

(This time yesterday, I believed that I was more likely to be a candidate for feeling the effect of your RAY GUN.)

No idea if the poll can be updated but hay, it's my fault it's not on there!
Given that your story has no visible title, putting its title in the poll might even prove more of a hindrance than a help when someone is looking to vote for your entry. (I would assume that having decided to vote for your entry, they'd look for your name**.)

** - Which is what I usually do anyway, as all but a tiny number of the usernames are far more familiar to me -- and often have their own abbreviations for when I'm constructing my list -- than the titles (although I do cross check to make sure that I'm not mis-voting).

There were so many great stories this month that in the end I whittled down my short list to my absolute favorites. Otherwise the list would pretty much include every single entry!

Vote went to Cascade, for an entry that gave me shivers. Phyrebrat was a very close second. And runners-up were Kerry, Cat's Cradle and Anya.

Thank you Parson and Bowler for the mentions. :)

Yes, for those who aren't aware of it, you can see who voted for whom by clicking on the "1 vote(s)" that corresponds to the name. :)
