I actually submitted to this as well. Got a no. Sad face.

It was a long shot - I sent them 25,000 words of a novel I hadn't (and still haven't) finished yet, and which just wasn't ready. Spent hours polishing the synopsis and getting the thing as close to ready as I could. I had heard of the contest a week before it ended, and just decided to go for it. Nothing ventured and all that, right?

Hi All, I've been hovering for a couple of months but only just joined up. Sorry for everyone who has received the rejections. Haven't received mine yet. Yet, being the operative word of the sentence.

Congrats for staying in, and welcome to the chrons forums. :)

Welcome from me as well.

Why do you expect receiving a rejection? They are getting closer and closer for asking partials, or even full ones. To be honest, I would have expected them to ask more partials on subjects that fall within their interests. They know the material they've in their hands and it has to be good to compete with King, Heinlein, Frank Herbert and other big ones.

But, as I said, it's a business decision at the end. And I think Jo mentioned something about Harper Voyager winners not be seen anywhere. That their sale rank number was with six digits, not four or less.

The winners from that are listed here:
HarperVoyager signs 15 in open submission fortnight | The Bookseller

But all their paperbacks cost £13.99, ie: Graynelore: Amazon.co.uk: Stephen Moore: 9780008120474: Books

That's only 450% more expensive than the bestseller Game of Thrones, published by the same company.
They were set up to be primarily an e-book sales market, so I think reviewing the Amazon kindle rankings might be the best way to ascertain how successful it was.

Just a lack of confidence thing really. The fact that I've survived this far feels like a mistake☺

I wish you hadn't said that.... ;)

This is exactly how I feel too. I wonder how @anthorn and @vgunn feel about it. I see vgunn hasn't been seen on here since October last year, though, so I guess I'm unlikely to get an answer from that quarter!

I'm hanging on some news from literary mags. They are way past their usual deadline for contact. Apparently, this may mean it has gone to the Editor's Table. <.< And, to make everybody feel better, I have a very talented friend who is repped in Australia by one of the Big Ones with her first novel, and she didn't make it past the third reading either. So, this late on I don't believe it is to do with talent, just business x
