Discussion thread -- September 2015 75-word Writing Challenge

I like the sound of Future Littlestar. How many Littlestars are there? I imagine at least 47; 6 for each day of the week, and 5 for bank holidays.

Oh, at least yes. I like to keep a few in resevre as well, just for emergencies. Never know which day I'll need to field a football team of LittleStar's, or you know just get one of them to cook my breakfast for me while I do other important day stuff:cool:

Jeez Louise this is a difficult one... er... I mean challenging ;)
I finally found a story in my head, and it is in. Though I'm not entirely convinced I completely understand what is and what isn't cyberpunk... Well. What's done is done.
Now I have the freedom to read everyone's stories properly and formulate my selection of vote contenders... *enter a hands rubbing together mysteriously evil plan emoji* :coffee: ...not quite.

After not having any ideas for the genre, I had to choose between 2 or 3 of them today. And even then when It came to writing what I had down in my head, it lost a lot of what I had planned. A tough month for me.

I have something now, though it was really difficult to cut that last word.

I do have a word conundrum though, so ill just throw it out here instead of bugging a mod directly... Im pretty sure they are fine, but are computer acronyms counted a single word; OS, RAM and DOS for example? :)

Agreed, on the stories mentioned above; all are very fine. I'll offer another fave -- Robert's story is beautifully written, and remarkably touching. I think the genre/theme is nailed perfectly, as well. Terrific stuff, RM!

:) I appreciate your joke, Mr. Orange...even though the source of the joke is no longer with us! CC

RE: LittleStar's query: "I'm pretty sure they are fine, but are computer acronyms counted a single word; OS, RAM and DOS for example? :)"

Hey LittleStar! I wanted to use FBI once in a challenge (for the US's Federal Bureau of Investigation), and count it as one word; I asked a mod back then and was told it would indeed count as one word. I cannot find that PM, though, and this was well over a year ago, so you might want to verify the issue with a mod, just to be 100% sure (my memory was never the best part of me). CC

willwallace – Sometimes a story comes along that just eludes me, and unfortunately this ins one. Oh it makes sense, some beautiful description, a battle for control from within the cybersphere itself, but it seems that there is a fairly decent punchline. I just don’t get it. What is porn?

DG Jones – It is amazing what some people will do as part of their job, the end justifies the means springs to mind, but there are those who have a moment of clarity, feel guilt and remorse and what they have done and are prepared to offer the ultimate form of self-judgement.

Mr Orange – A double redemption as anger leads to lashing out, which fails and so the same mistake may be made again. Perhaps. I mean what happens if it is burned this time? Perhaps there should be an infinite supply of vouchers to redeem.

Ihe – A tricky story that gives an unusual take, while offering the chance for a lost soul to find some measure of peace, while leaving those left behind questions. Virtual insanity perhaps.

TitaniumTi – A real life process is updated for the cyber age. Is it a scam or an acceptable practice? It does not matter because a victim becomes the abuser as he sets himself free by ensnaring others who are just as he once was. But then he does not stop…

HazelRah – What we do for love. Saving someone, by any means even if it means that they become little more than a memory engraved in silicon, an electric memory might be enough, unless the process starts to fail… the feel of a progressive digital loop works a dream.

Venusian Broon – Many are the times that people have been drawn into religious cults and their promises and ideologies only to find their personalities subsumed beyond recognition. This updates it for the cyber age, lost forever with all control handed over to those that want it.

Juliana – A beautifully constructed story, that is wonderful in its updated fairy tale form, a rhyming, flowing masterpiece with a strong story and a perfect payoff.

johnnyjet – Jealousy come from many sources and in many forms. Is it possible for an artificial life form to feel such an emotion? One way or another it happens here and quite scarily shows just what the consequences might be when a powerful personality is pushed too far. What are the words of penitence?

Just when I thought there could not possibly be another iteration of the Perp/Tim name I fend myself transformed into the stuff of garden parties. All good.

You know, I'm just waiting for everyone to get used to the transition, then I'm going to change it back. :D
