Star Trek: Discovery - new series in 2017

It was meant to celebrate 50 years of Star Trek. Since celebrating 51 years of Star Trek doesn't quite have the same ring to it, I expect that pay subscription is more likely. The worst outcome of all would be to do a Firefly - show only some of the episodes, completely jumbled in order, move it to a graveyard time slot, cancel it, and then never show the final episodes. At least on pay subscription you know you are getting all the episodes and can watch them at your own convenience.

Too much network meddling , Season wise , one and done.

Yeah, I don't like the rumblings and delays. This is starting to smell real bad. Won't hold my breath. Please tell me it's not on Fox.

At this point I think the best we can expect is a made for television film (or two) comprised of whatever they manage to film and that will be it. With the obvious lack of commitment at this point, I think that's just as well.

Only the pilot will be shown on CBS, whenever it comes out. The rest will be shown on CBS All Access, but they can still butcher the episode line up, since i think it's going to be one per week.

I think putting it on regular broadcast tv would be a better strategy for the Show

Let's face it, if they thought GOT was pirated a lot it's going to be nothing compared to this series.

I'm looking for something new, innovative and original. It sounds like this will be all homages, familiar characters and imitation. Not only is that stale and unimaginative, but it shows a lack of creativity and courage.

I do hope I'm proved wrong, but Enterprise began much like this and only found its after it had been cancelled. Most other Trek series took two or three seasons to get "good," but given what we've read already in this thread, Discovery does not have that leeway. If it isn't immediately good, then it will be cancelled before the first series is finished. I think the chances of that are high.

Every Star Trek series that has been started since TOS has been bad-mouthed by Trek fans prior to the first episode. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised at the same happening now.

Who cares if it's a "prequel"? It's STAR TREK!

We make movies and series about real life history all the time. What's so bad about one in our favorite universe?

A series set in the time beyond TNG would require new technologies, a lot more CGI - and a lot more money, or it wouldn't be good. I'm sure you could find the writers, designers, programmers and actors, but who's going to bankroll it? What network is going to take a chance on it?

Me? I'm happy we're getting a new Star Trek series! :)

But they can do so much more CGI for reasonable money then they could even a 5 years ago. Im thinking thing they can do a series beyond the Next Generation for reasonable money.

So write and pitch it!

There's a new Star Trek series coming, and I'm happy! :)
