Discussion Thread -- December 2015 75-word Writing Challenge

Congratulations, HB! Very nicely done! :D

I tremble at the upcoming theme/genre possibilities....

Imagine my frustration. I thought that 7:00 my time equaled 12 GMT! So no voting can be done.

But

Short list
Ratsy: Santa -- Satan Claus
Bob Senior: Paint & Power
JohnnyJet: "The Little Engine That Really Could"
Ursa Major: "Grate Expectations
The Judge: Risk of Lost Profits = Certainty of Lost Prophet.

My vote would have gone for Bob Senior's Paint and Power. A wonderful twist that sucked me right in the in-take valve.

Thanks for the metion StilLearning. Much appreciated.

Congratulations HareBrain!

Congratulations Harebrain!

With all of the holiday hubbub, it was even more difficult than usual to make time to re-read all of the stories and worry out a vote...
But, I did squeeze in a vote, a few hours ago, for Bowler. From one sick sense of humor to another.

Other names that appear on something resembling a list, for reasons [handwriting undecipherable] Harebrain, Rob Mck, Tim James, Mosaix. And an honorable mention for Saharan for Calliopes and Catastrophes in Yellowstone. (A thousand miles is not far enough away. My wife was raised in Yellowstone country... and I really wanted to be able to use the phrase: Calliopes and Catastrophes)

****
Thanks for the further mentions. I'm proud to be on CC's top almost list and Chrispy's short list.

Congratulations HB!

Sorry I didn't get round to voting, only so much time I have over the holidays, and I tend to go pretty tech-free around Christmas and the New Year before the old meanie January comes around.

Nevertheless, I did think HB"s story would be up there come voting time, and so it proved to be. Very well played, sir. Pass the port!

Congratulations, HareBrain, for a well-deserved win! It was a really endearing story. :)
Thank you Glen, johnnyjet, TDZ and farntfar for the mentions, and also to farntfar for the kind words (for my own part, "Steamy Davidson penny-farthing" was one of my very favorite lines from the challenge!).
You're welcome to all who sent thanks for listings, or vote.
My entry was of course a parody of A Christmas Carol, whose story begins with the words "Marley was dead...", which gave me my entry into steampunk with the line "The Harley was dead." ACC ends "...God bless us, every one!", which became "Cogs recessed, every one." Fan was Scrooge's sister, Fezziwig was an early boss of his. And the rest was just jokey references to ACC.
Again, congrats to HB for a terrific story...a victory to end the year, well done! :)

Well done, HareBrain. A great story. Be gentle with us next month...

(and thank you very much for the vote, mosaix!)

Congrats, HB! A great story!

Many thanks to Bob Senior for the vote, and thanks also to those who listed my story. I didn't think I'd do too well this month, given I had only the barest veneer of steampunk on my story. And for my shabby treatment of Blitzen...

Congratulations HB. A well deserved win.
Lots of lovely references in this month's entries and lots of Christmas cheer as well.
I enjoyed them all.

My own last line, if anyone didn't recogonise it, was the first line of a famous Monty Python episode.....

Yes I know the first line was actually "Trouble at mill."
.....
Yes and I know that Carol then says "Oh dear. What kind of trouble?"
So ok. It was the third line.
Look! I didn't expect some kind of...
Oh never mind.

I hope you all had a great Christmas, and that you have a terrific new year. (If you're into that sort of celebration at this time of the year etc. If not, I hope you're just having a nice time.)

I personally will celebrate the new year somewhere I've never been before, but you can see that in the "Shout your good news..." thread.
