Many thanks to Will and Ursa for the mentions. Congrats to BIG star for the win. Aww, no tiebreaker. :(

Congrats, LittleStar!

Many thanks to TDZ for the vote, and thanks also for all the mentions and short lists this month - greatly appreciated! I'm not usually struck by inspiration so early on, so I'm not sure what happened this month. The combination of 'weird' and 'hair' put me in mind of Medusa and the gorgons, and I quickly struck upon 'The Witch of Stone Man Ridge' as a fitting weird western title. At the last minute I was playing with the names of the gunslingers who came before my heroine, trying to make up humourous but authentic sounding western names, and decided to throw in some Lovecraft references just to weird it up a bit more.

Congratulations, LittleStar!!! You wrote a terrific story, with a wonderful central idea, well done! And well done, too, to VB. Another fine story, and a really fun race to the finish this challenge!

Thanks to all the kind folks who listed my story, and Shyrka! Wow, thanks again for the lovely vote! :)

Congratulations LittleStar

Well done to Venusian Broon for second place

Thank you for the reviews star beast and Victoria!

You're very welcome Mad Alice.

Thank you Lady Ashleyne for the mention, you made my night. And "you're welcome" for me mentioning you.

You're immensely welcome Willwallace. Keep'em flying my friend.

Well done, Littlestar. :)

Equal congratulations must go to Venusian Broon for an extremely close second place, in a contest which was decided by a hair.

I was certain that if anyone was Ursa pun-proof, it would be Victoria. Guess not (his influence is everywhere...must be the tumbleweeds, which come to think of it WOULD be right at home in a western...) :D

Congratulations Littlestar. We should now all call you Biggest and brightest star. :X3:

Congratulations Littlestar!

Well, in the end I got carried off in a wooden box for Tombstone cemetery with all the rest :p Well done and bask in Chrons glory for a while, I will be off to amend the leaderboard!

Many thanks to those that have mentioned my bridesmaid position (one day, one day...:D) - but I think it is always better to have a bit of a close run thing, isn't it! But thanks to Cat's Cradle, Grimward, Bowler1, Willwallace, Harebrain and Ensign Shah for their vote. Always an honour to get a vote in the 75 - getting 6 was pretty amazing and has blown my mind a bit.

Also thanks for all the rest of the posse that mentioned me in their voting mails - in my mind (and my own personal scoring system ) it's really a vote too :)

Congrats, LittleStar! Commiserations, VB -- but the bridesmaid's dress does look lovely on you. :D

In case my excursion into foreign territory caused confusion, in French chevaux means horses, but cheveux means hair -- hence they thought they were buying a horse ranch, not the hair ranch they ended up with, as Curly's so-called French lessons weren't up to it -- and Cajun is the French-American spoken in Louisiana (yes, I know the title said Texas, but that was poetic licence, and -- for those with long memories -- a recycling of my previous weird Western entry).

And in the most-hair-puns/references-per-tale, I stake my claim at 14 -- though I regret I didn't have the sheer idiotic brilliance of TDZ's mullets! -- since the following were all hair styles or connected with hair in some way (omitting "hair" itself): 'rows (short for cornrows), curly, bouffant, bob, trimmed, permanent, blond, quiff, roll (usually French, fittingly enough), brunette, crop, dreads (ie dreadlocks), bangs (US for fringes) and beehives. I'd have liked a few more, but I was running out of time and word count! Anyone got more than 14?
