Discussion Thread -- March 2016 75-word Writing Challenge

Well, mine's in.
Not really the direction I intended to go in... but there was an amusing picture in my head that couldn't be restrained :sneaky:

Sorry, but this took a while. I had a few real life errands to get done and needed a bit to get back my writing muse. She went on a mini vacation. ;)Anyway, here we go. :)

Serge Alexandr-A bit of a mystery mixed in with this tale.
culhwch-Maybe a bit of an unfair fight. Only the end will tell.
pambaddeley-The beginning of a chase.
Ihe-The ruins of a long ago fight.
Glen-A singing space creature creates a twist in this tale.
Cat's Cradle-An interesting first meeting.
StillLearning-What could have a tale of woe, turns rather humorous.
Mr. Orange-A funny tale
Hazelrah-We always knew our animal had intelligence.

Glen – Only when their decades-long pursuit is over do the crew of the chasing starship finally understand their quarry.

Cat’s Cradle – Fear of the unknown triumphs when the eager welcome of a planet-sized intelligence proves to much for a crew of travel-weary explorers.

StilLearning – Android proxies battle for the fate of humanity but all is not as it seems.

Mr Orange – Word play and fourth-wall breaking run rampant in this insight into a writer’s internal narrative. Meta.

Captain of the Sole – While the crew of an interstellar vessel sleep their faithful finned friends watch over them.

Maiden Orbit – The fate of a new world is decided by the hubris of its creator.

Hey guys, just waltzing through some threads to unapologetically plug Three-Legged Improv. Check it out when you run out of the official challenges!

Concerning this challenge, I'm not sure if my story is "fantasy" enough. Spears and immortals could technically still be SF, right? How about "The Void" and "seers" being used as scanners? This has been bugging me. Whenever I think of fantasy I think of medieval gear, wizards, and dragons--almost exclusively.

Thank you Victoria, Calliopenjo, and Shyrka for the very nice reviews! :)

And Ihe, I may have caused confusion with my genre choice...I was thinking of films such as Star Wars when I chose Space Fantasy...stories that aren't hard science fiction, but are still set in space. Wikipedia says this:

Science fantasy is a mixed genre within the umbrella of speculative fiction which simultaneously draws upon and/or combines tropes and elements from both science fiction and fantasy. It also sometimes incorporates elements of horror fiction.

We're probably open to a whole spectrum of interpretations of this genre choice, but maybe someone more knowledgeable in genre definitions could give their thoughts? Sorry for the confusion! CC

I finished a draft a week or so ago, and hadn't gone over it yet. But Juliana's entry mentioned a specific couple of words that were a bit close to my idea... And bizarrely the rest of her premise was pretty near to my secondary idea. I thought I'd best not push my luck.
So... I'm in :)

Ah ya. A bit late to the party this month but I do have something slowly cooking over a hot fire. I'm blaming CC for my late showing as the genre flummoxed me for some time, but shouldn't complain as I would have done exactly the same. Absurdist Fiction, anyone? ;)
