Discussion Thread -- April 2016 75-word Writing Challenge

I'm finding the 300 easier this month. This one has me by the tight and curly ones. That gets me to write but.... I would love to reference the two abut the same topic, seems against the rules.

I think twiddling thumbs may be a good idea right now

Well, it's tricky, but it can be done. You can't use the 300 to expand your 75 story while the voting is still active on the 75. But there is, barring tiebreakers, a window after the 75 voting and before the entries close on the 300, in which it could be done legally. :)

TDZ, i thought the entries could not be re-used entries from other challenges, which the above sounds like it might be?

i have nothing so far for the 75er

I'm in! Nice stories so far, everyone. :)
Now...on to the 300 worder!

Luiglin -- A suspenseful account of the ultimate form of isolation.

Cathbad -- An ironic look at the power of social status.

Ashleyne. B. Watts -- A terrifying portrait of the danger of unlimited power.

nixie -- An evocative prose poem of impotent omniscience.

Droflet -- A touching story of solitude among others.

StilLearning -- A powerful tale of the uncaring nature of the laws of nature.

Kerrybuchanan -- A surprising narrative of disaster and its aftermath.

Shyrka -- A satiric look at modern culture.

chrispenycate -- An intricate poem of the mind of a familiar being.

Perpetual Man -- A chilling combination of speculation and imagination.

Cat's Cradle -- A surreal romp where anything is possible.

farntfar -- A hardboiled yarn of crime and desperation.

You can't make a 75 from a previous 300, but you can make a 300 from a 75, after the voting is over on the 75 in question. You can't post the 300 while the 75 is still live, which leaves a couple of days' leeway between the vote-closing on the 28th and the entry-closing of the 300 on the 30th -- assuming the 75 doesn't go into overtime, which would take it to the end of the 300 entry period. Make sense? :D

Rules said:
Since one of the demanding aspects of the 75-word Challenge is to create a story which is readily comprehensible in so few words, entries for those Challenges may not re-use a story which has previously appeared in a 300-word Challenge. Entries for the 300-word Challenges may re-use stories wherever first appearing, but only when voting in any previous Challenge has finished.

thanks for clarifying TDZ.

well i have a first draft. it's too long and makes no sense, but i have a first draft.

White Room, @Luiglin – A psychic is studied by unknown forces. Will they cave to their tormentor’s demands?

Superiority, @Cathbad – A young student struggles to adapt to a new environment where he is no longer the big fish.

Gregory, @Ashleyne. B. Watts – A man with strange powers spreads fear and mistrust amongst the populace.

Watcher, @nixie – This tale tells of an all-seeing presence who lurks unseen. Unsettling.

The Freak, @Droflet – A marooned astronaut tries to make the best of their new life amongst the natives but the physiological barrier may be too great.

Suit-less, @StilLearning – A tale of youthful misadventure that skilfully busts the Hollywood myths of exposure to a vacuum.

Atonement, @Kerrybuchanan - A tale of hope and regret, set in a desolate lunar colony, with a supernatural twist.

Guardian, @chrispenycate – This curious rhyme tells the tale of a feline sentinel that remains dedicated to their task despite the hardships they must endure.

On a Blood Red World,@Perpetual Man – The desperate hopes of parents war with their fear of something that cannot be.

Closing Time at the Everyone’s Welcome Inn, @Cat's Cradle – A delightful mish-mash of outlandish entities shoot the breeze.

Legal Entry, @farntfar – A love-struck starship passenger is willing to do anything to bring their lover in from the cold.

View from a Height, @Victoria Silverwolf – A city-dwelling woman goes to extremes to get a room with a view.

The Outsiders, @Wruter An advanced interstellar civilisation intercept a deliciously primitive colony vessel.

The Depreciation of Ploughshares, @DG Jones – The rampage of an escaped psychopath from another world cause the population of a peaceful planet to reconsider their dedication to pacifism.

Thank you, Victoria and Shyrka, for your commentaries. Hmm, familiar? Perhaps I should get him a tiny crash helmet and a skyway code leaflet for broomsticks?
