Will’o the Wind, @Phyrebrat – A lone survivor, marooned on a tiny desert world, faces the horrific prospect that their desperate quest for water has led them back to their starting point, quite literally ‘full circle’.
Pub with no Beer, @Glen – Ripe with charming vernacular, this story of life in the isolated outback of Oz shows that, even at the end of the world, some things remain constant.
Ouroboros,@Stephen Thompson – At first glance, this intriguing story of a space explorer and the ship they ‘inherited’ from their father seems straight-forward enough but the title and ending hint at a darker reality.
Terrable,@Devil's Advocate – Trapped on a watery world, a lone survivor longs for the day when they might be water-logged no longer.
Dust to Dust, @ratsy – A grieving parent uses the last of their water to bury their child. Their tears may moisten the dry ground but soon blood will do the same.
A Lesson From History?@mosaix – A story rich with haunting parallels. The survivors of a world doomed by ignorance look for salvation in an alarmingly familiar place.
A Lesson From History? @mosaix
The story opens like any classic vision of a bleak future and then, when you least expect it, throws a twist that will make you ponder your origins for the rest of the evening.
Well, only hours left (several of them, admittedly) and we're almost at the mystical 42 (depending, obviously, on the word count of my versey thing - and as it ends with an assonance and not a true rhyme I'm not that enamoured of it anyway): and considering those stalwarts who have not yet contributed include:- Cascade,DG Jones, Hopewrites, Ihe, Jo Zebedee, Mad Alice, Moonbat, Mr Orange, nixie, The Judge, TheDustyZebra, ThomasG, Ursa major and Vaz, I think we can be confident of succeeding?
Not quite as many newcomers as last month, but still a respectable number.
Thank you Victoria and Shyrka for your commentaries - possibly not exactly what I had tried to put into it, but that is one of the drawbacks of the poetic form - the reader translates into his or her recognised symbols. Mares reviewing as hard as voting .
After looking back over all the entries, I had to go with "Hung Out To Dry" by crystal haven. The light touch of this all-too-realistic fable appealed to me.
Here we go again. Great entries as usual. So on with the show.
Honorables: Wruter, Shyrka, Cory S, Beasty, Parson, Glen, Ratsy, Mosaix, PM, Cul and Ursa.
Gold goes to Dusty. Slimy, creepy, moist. Very clever take on the theme.
