DISCUSSION THREAD -- October 2016 75-word Writing Challenge

Here we go again. Great entries as usual. So on with the show.
Honorables: Wruter, Shyrka, Cory S, Beasty, Parson, Glen, Ratsy, Mosaix, PM, Cul and Ursa.
Gold goes to Dusty. Slimy, creepy, moist. Very clever take on the theme.

Thank you for the listing Droflet. You made my morning.

Some fab entries again this month. Star Beast bonkers as ever, love it! Ursa, punny as ever, wish I could write as well as you.

Was a bit sorry that we didn't have a horror themed challenge this month with Halloween coming up, but Culwch thankfully wrote a brilliant entry which was also deliciously chilling, and so gets my vote.

Thank you Marvin.

Was a bit sorry that we didn't have a horror themed challenge this month with Halloween coming up, but Culwch thankfully wrote a brilliant entry which was also deliciously chilling, and so gets my vote.

Even with a "unique" theme, you could still make it into a horror tale (or Halloweenish), or use a villain from fiction.

It took an hour to read and vote, hence the double post.

I want to say first that this was an interesting challenge and my story was not trying to intimate otherwise. Second, there were a lot of stories that I just did not understand. So I want to apologize for being dense.

Short list:

@AstroZon --- "Terraforming" without a clue.
@Clockworkbot --- "The Eight-legged War" .... Very original, I note that assassin is an 8 letter (or would that be legged) word.
@Bowler1 --- "Eternal Thirst" ... Revenge is never enough.
@Devil's Advocate --- "Terrable" ... A curse worthy of Sisyphus
@ratsy --- "Dust to Dust" ... A dry but bloody lust.

Voted for:

@Cathbad --- "Why Is This Happening to Me" .... Bad luck: Good Story ---- Reminded me of the lyric "Why's everybody always picking on me."

Oh my goodness, people to thank already!

Hugs and cookies to Droflet for the lovely vote!

And many thanks to Coast, Wruter, Starbeast, Cathbad and Vaz for the kind mentions. :D

Thank you so much for the votes, Coast, Cat's Cradle and Wruter.

A great set of stories this month. Currently I'm balancing between Stillearning's story and mosaix's, but I'll need to read them all again, and I really like TDZ's as well, and Clockworkbot's, and...

On the Rocks, @paranoid marvin – The story of a motley crew of drunks (perhaps the ‘u’ should be an ‘i’?) who discover that their quest is doomed from the start by their predilection for liquor.

Who Will Remember Us? @StilLearning – After the destruction of the human race by alien bio-weapons, it falls to our scattered, robotic progeny to continue our legacy.

The Dry, @Culhwch – A nightmare vision of an apocalyptic world where water is a rare commodity. Alas, no amount of it will slake the thirst of the dead.

Lay Me in the Dust of Death, @HazelRah – A new form of extraterrestrial refreshment promises to revolutionise the bottled-water industry but are there unforeseen side-effects yet to be discovered?

Wet and Dry, @Ursa major – An aging sorceror seeks an apprentice in this eldritch tale rich with magic and word play.

That so the shadows be not unappeased, @TheDustyZebra – A chilling, topical story of an extra-terrestrial creature whose drive survive the dry alien world it finds itself on makes it seek out moist places… and people.

Temperance, @MadAlice – A dark tale of addiction and control – a priest uses his own blood to bring young, impressionable vampires under his sway for... uncertain... ends.

The Eternal Recovery, @Moonbat – Rich with nautical allegories, this story of intoxication paints a bleak picture of helplessness in the face of judgement.

Thanks to Glen, Mosaix (final two? wow), Wruter and Droflet for the lovely mentions. I was annoyed at myself for rushing my entry somewhat this month - I struggled to find anything for a while and then, as I often do, wrote it out, stared at it for a couple of days and decided I couldn't improve it. Naturally, immediately after submitting, a whole bunch of ideas for improvements suddenly came to mind.
