DISCUSSION THREAD -- December 2016 75-word Writing Challenge

Ajid -- This alternate version of recent history reminds us how thin the line is between science and magic.

Heijan Xavier -- This sardonic fable reveals how war can be fought for reasons that are more selfish than noble.

I haven't forgotten this month's challenge. I'm reading stories in the genre to get a better idea what this is all about. Chances are, I'll get it wrong.

Well, i'm in. managed to shoehorn the festive spirit in... kind of.

and my entry has pushed me over into three figures too. don't think this counts as a critique, will have to get my space caterpillar story ready to put up for discussion.

@Mr Orange .... Well that was a romp. It gave me a picture of Santa in Spandex and a cape. ---- Not sure that's what you were going for. ---- Jingle Bells has always been ripe for exploitation with that line "sleighing song tonight" but I doubt its ever been as ghoulish as yours. Well done!

OK. I posted my story and I hope people get it. If not, another one bit the dust. lol. Oh, the joys of trying something new. It was a fun one to research. It wasn't all bad. It's mostly me complaining.

A challenge needs to be just that. A challenge. If ti wasn't, it wouldn't be fun. We might not learn anything if it wasn't.

I've been spending all my writing time fretting over the Secret Eight workshop thingy so the challenges have fallen by the wayside a little this time. I doubt I'll get to do any reviews at this rate but I do have a possible entry that's only two words away from being legal. I'm just not sure I like it enough yet...

This is my first attempt at writing reviews. And I’m not going to review my own because that seems silly. I will most likely screw this up somehow.

The Snowing of Black, @Ashleyne. B. Watts – Someone has been found out. And it hurts.

My Sweet Jenny, @Cathbad – Turning over a new leaf. It’s going to be different this time I swear!

Revenge is a dish best served cold, very cold, @Luiglin – Revenge for the suffering of phossy jaw (which was a real thing back in the day looks terrible)… I think.

Heart’s Desire, @Hugh – Santa? Is that you?

Someday I’ll Marry Susanna, @Cat’s Cradle – Bittersweet nostalgia of a happier time.

Climate Change, @Victoria Silverwolf – A journey down “Old Man river”.

Trophies, @Dave Barsby – An angry trees perspective.

Ashes, @Peter V – Short term solutions…

The Two Menacing Gargoyles, @juelz4sure – Sporting gargoyles seize their opportunity.

Shocking the Gas-glass Smashers!, @ErikB – All good things come to an end.

Snow Queen, @Wruter – Kiss is just a kiss, but sometimes it can be suicide.

Curse of the Winter Heart, @AJB – Someone is having a bad day.

I'll Be Home for…, @Abernovo – Observations of the passage of time.

Pub with no Beer III: High Street to Hell, @Glen – The end of the world and I feel a ‘coldie’.

Phosphorescence, @AstroZon – Something wicked this way comes…

Untitled, @TacticalLoco – The crops are dead, time to dream.

Steaming through Africa, @Ajid – Discovery leads to tragedy

Frozen Liquid Assets, @Heijan Xavier – The gears of war never stop it seems.

Early This Year, @reiver33 – An introduction to winter by way of contrast.

Jingle Hell, @Mr Orange – Fun Christmas carol parody, and hellhounds. Hungry ones.

Fairy Lights, @LittleStar – Fairies mourn the good ol’ days, and now must try harder.

Scarborough Faire, @Calliopenjo – A recipe of love and wisdom brings comfort.

@Abernovo – Observations of the passage of time.
Heh! Makes me sound like I'm old and writing my memoirs! Okay, I am (or feel it today), but I'm not, in that order.

You're not screwing it up at all. Everybody has their own review style. Have at it.

Tricanthos -- This suspenseful tale makes the reader eager to know what happens next.

reiver33 -- Vivid details are used to bring a character to life in this compelling story.

Mr Orange -- Ghoulish humor fills this wicked parody of a familiar literary work.

LittleStar -- Technology and magic combine in this poignant tale.

Calliopenjo -- The changes that come with time are strongly conveyed in thoughtful story.

Thanks for the review, Victoria.

Can't remember the last time I joined the challenges, but I've neglected writing for so long that I really should start getting back into it.

I just got going again myself. Hang in there. You know regular writing is the only way to go.

Decided to make myself do these again and have put in a rusty entry. (My plan had been to start in January but this was a fab genre and topic)
