Discussion Thread -- FEBRUARY 2017 -- 75 Word Writing Challenge

@Vaz .... Thanks for the short list of my story! This looks to be one of my better months in quite a while. :)

Thanks for the mentions DG Jones, Johnnyjet & Perpetual Man. And thanks for the vote Glen.

I've waited this long to vote because I really couldn't decide between my favorite two. But I have to vote, right? So, at this moment, I will force myself to choose. Some lists (and apologies for leaving so many nice stories off):

Honorable mentions:
Ashleyne, Shyrka, Calliopenjo, Peter V, Sapheron, AstroZon, DG Jones, HazelRah, LittleStar, Kerry

Might-Have-Received-Votes-In-Any-Other-Challenge:
Culhwch, Ursa major

Favorites:
Victoria, The Judge.

Darn you two for making it so hard, with such amazing stories! :) I would gladly have voted for either of these (and almost did, several times); I loved them both. Terrific, wonderfully written stories both, with amazing last lines. But finally, I went for Victoria. And it might just be because I read it first, on the first (of February)...and it's been with me longer. Good luck in the voting to all contenders! CC

ps - thank you farntfar, for the mention!

As ever, some stories didn't to me seem to hit the genre, and weren't fables as such, and one or two left me puzzling where "Growth" was. A few others just left me puzzling.

Anyhow, my shortlist, which is shorter than I'd have liked as several stories wanted to sneak in because of their good writing or cleverness, but were barred by my pernickityness over genre (and the moral is...):

Cat's Cradle -- The Jewel Thief
Jo -- The Tale of Aster and Moss
Parson -- A Growth in Intelligence
Sapheron -- The Warmth of Experience
Shykra -- The Ivy and the Mushroom
TDZ -- Let It Shine
Victoria -- The Woman and the Moon

I had real problems making a decision this month, and wavered back and forth for a goodly while, each one of the above having at least one aspect that put it above its rivals. I managed to whittle the list down to three -- CC, Parson and TDZ -- and despite CC's most moral moral, and Parson's clever chicken brilliantly outwitting sly fox, in the end I just couldn't resist TDZ's unmossy tale and daft proverbing moral!

Many grown-big, bully-defeated fabulous thanks for the mentions/shortlistings Droflet, Storm, Starbeast, Parson, (damn that Zebra for swiping my vote!), DGJ, johnnyjet, Perp, farntfar, CC (that will teach me to post so late!) and Phyrebrat. And fast, strong and smart, perfectly sized shrewd thanks for the lovely votes Stable, Kerry, Luiglin, nixie, Chris P, and stealthy Wruter! Far more than I expected, and undoubtedly far more than the doggerel deserved!

EDIT: by my calculations, we've only got 30 votes recorded. After her success in persuading people to enter, can the stripey one -- or anyone else -- send out more FaceBook messages, guilt-tripping members into voting?

A good set of stories this month :)

My short list is as follows
Victoria
johnnyjet
Cul
DG
Phyre
Jo
Hazelrah

And my vote goes to Shykra(y)
You managed to hit pretty much on the head, the initial idea for my own entry, and pulled it off so much better than I would have :)

I found it extremely tough this time, and didn't expect much, so am extra grateful for CC's honourable, keeping me from the dreaded 0-0:eek:

I hope this isn't like most months, when I'm the last to vote.... But whether I am or not, here are the results of the Ursa jury:

Honourable Mentions:
  • The Woman and the Moon by Victoria Silverwolf
  • Bushy Tailed Annihilation - The Nut Death Butchery Tour by Luiglin
  • You Are What You Eat by Phyrebrat
  • Let it shine by TheDustyZebra

Runners Up:
  • The Ivy and the Mushroom by Shyrka
  • Seek, And Ye Shall Find by DG Jones
  • The Arabian Night's Tale by Kerrybuchanan

Winner:
  • No More Mr Nice Shrew by The Judge

Just a flying, last minute, 'what day are we...? oh no I have to vote' visit.

Vote went to Culhwch

Honourable mentions to Nixie, Phyrebrat and Shyrka

Many thanks to those who mentioned mine, and especially to fartnar for the vote :X3:

My shortlist is:

Parson - A Growth in Intelligence

Culhwch - Cat and Dog

Nixie- The Giants Tale

My vote goes to Sapheron for The Warmth of Experience

Thanks to Droflet, Hugh, Starbeast, Glen, johnnyjet, farntfar and CC for the mentions. A ginormous thanks, Phyrebrat, for the vote.

EDIT: by my calculations, we've only got 30 votes recorded. After her success in persuading people to enter, can the stripey one -- or anyone else -- send out more FaceBook messages, guilt-tripping members into voting?
Well, according to my little list, those who have submitted but not voted are:Alex Darion, AstroZon, BionicGriff, Bowler1, Cory Swanson, Mad Alice, Mr Orange, Shyrka and TheDustyZebra -which, as you might notice, includes the stripy one.

I've voted, but I haven't got my list up yet. :)
