DISCUSSION -- MAY 2017 75-word Writing Challenge

HOT GAS, @RJM Corbet – Referring to a different kind of ‘end’, this story of a captive’s daring escape reaches an explosive finale.

Yes. Thanks Shyrka. I think your story is brilliant.

RJM Corbett -- This Rabelaisian comedy shows how we all share the same human failings.

Thank you, Victoria. Hppe you win the 300 word. You got my vote ...

It is a bit hazy indeed. Hyphens are what cause the most wrangling in the staff room. It's best to always assume a hyphenated set of words may count as more than one, and ask. Generally speaking, but by no means a guarantee, a hyphenated thing used as an adjective is more likely to count as one word than the same thing used as a noun, for instance.

Far better to be clunky than disqualified. :)

@nixie --- Gives us a cautionary story of what it could mean to "Have Peace in our Time."

@Teresa Edgerton
.... Gives us the tale of the worry even if you do survive "The Fall of Pandaemonium."

@Cory Swanson .... Shows us a very unusual pairing. But in the end the unusual pairing goes the way of most such pairings, it's a "Toxic Relationship."

@Hugh .... Gives us a very melancholy look at the last "Sunset" for humanity.

Peace in our Time, @nixie – A promise of peace and harmony turns out to be too good to be true in this alarming tale of a supernatural coup orchestrated with chilling efficiency. When the subjects are willing, who is there to resist?

The Fall of Pandaemonium, @Teresa Edgerton – An empire comes crumbling down – quite literally – but its supernatural rulers will live on to see another day. Or, hopefully, night.

A Toxic Relationship, @Cory Swanson – Two lovers from very different worlds (the insect world, in fact) discover that, whilst love may transcend boundaries, it does not transcend building code violations.

Sunset, @Hugh – This melancholy tale detailing preparations before the arrival of an unknown and deadly force shows that, despite what Hollywood might claim, we will go quietly into the night.

nixie -- This chilling story reminds us that if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Teresa Edgerton -- This apocalyptic tale offers the reader a unique vision of an unknown world.

Cory Swanson -- This wry account of a romance gone wrong shows how we have more in common than we think.

Hugh -- This intimate character study demonstrates the importance of small, everyday things during times of disaster.

Parson -- This moody portrait of despair reveals empathy for those who seem monstrous.

@Maieius .... The visitor to London believes that theories of the Tower of London being a mythical destination are wrong, but what he finds on his "First Time in London" is the end.

I was pretty amused to find all the word wrangling in the discussion this week, since I ended up doing that so much myself too. I ended up playing safe by cutting down to 73 in case "rat-like" and "lemme" would count as 2 words each...

This time I woke up with a fully formed story in my head. That never happens, so it was awesome... but then it didn't fit the genre. Foiled again! I stole its ending anyway.

@Heijan Xavier .... brings us a counselor who has both feet grounded in reality whose advice should have been given to Macbeth, after all you must make "A Beginning to the End of Lies."

(I thought this story was a Fantasy story line I could really buy into.)

@Stable .... In a place where the body is not tied to the soul no one really knows who it will be when we find "The Captive Returned."

While desperately trying to find the time to think of something, let alone write it - I've sneezed something together, I think it misses the mark a bit on Urban Fantasy, although I think there might be enough there to catch by the thinnest of possible margins.

Otherwise it is there to entertain!

I can't see myself being able to take a more active part in the Chrons for the foreseeable future - but I am out here watching :D
