Discussion thread -- June 2017 75-word Writing Challenge

OK, I got my buhiney into gear and wrote something for this month's challenge. I only hope it makes sense.

@Travis Woodward .... In a parallel universe Murphy rules supreme. It a good place to be "Just Visiting."

I really expected the ending to be darker than it was. So much so the ending was a surprise.

@Calliopenjo .... In the world of Fantasy there is nothing more dangerous than Murphy showing his head after you declare "I Aced It."

@ErikB .... Nothing is more frustrating that getting what you've gone above and beyond for just minutes before you don't need it.

So let me get this right... SF & F genre with a theme of Murphy's Law and cats?

I hope hypothetical cats count.

I've always found that as long as my hypothetical cats stay more or less hypothetical, they can do just about anything I want them to do... Including counting (especially those ones with opposable thumbs:alien:)

@Joshua Jones .... brings to mind the movie "The Incredible Shrinking Man" as what used to be his pet becomes a deadly danger and the roles of "Man and Beast" becomes less clear.

@Peter V .... The Scientific conundrum explanation of the century is defeated by Murphy -- in the guise of Fed Ex. Now we know why "Mr. Tibbles is wanted Dead or Alive."

You people are cracking me up.

However, in all seriousness I do believe that we are all missing a key element. @TheDustyZebra mentioned Kipling and Kittens. There have been plenty of felines on show but I'm truly disappointed that no one has attempted to get any mentions of Battenburgs, French Fancies or Cherry Bakewells.

[apologies for anyone beyond the borders of the British Isles who won't have a clue about what I'm on about. Here's a clue though Mr Kipling | Exceedingly good cakes]

Oh, we learned all of that the last time Kipling came around. I mean, the only time Kipling came around. Ahem.

Wait a minute... you mean to tell me that I ripped off one of the few classic SF movies that I have not yet watched? I was planning on watching that soon, so I avoided reading a plot synopsis.

How close are we talking about here? I hope I didn't inadvertently plagerize here...

:ROFLMAO: I don't think it's plagiarism if you haven't actually seen the thing in question. On the other hand, don't let the lawyers get a whiff of that idea. Race memory plagiarism? The mind boggles!

Right! But darn; I thought I had at least a half way original idea... it evolved from space pirates boarding a vessel and discovering it inhabited by a race of war kitties...

Don't worry. If I win, next month will either be Orwell and Ostriches, Wells and Walruses, Poe and Pigeons or Lovecraft and Llamas (Loons would have been obvious, I agree).

:eek::eek: And the worst of the lot is "Lovecraft and Llamas."

:D Not that close, but if you ever do see the movie you will see something somewhat similar in the climax.
