DISCUSSION -- JULY 2017 300-word Writing Challenge (#26)

Word says I am coming in at 299 words. Or am I?

Half-acre wood and Tree-like face are being counted as two words each. If here they count as three I am at 301...

Clarification please :)

Thank you

Another belated thank you to Victoria for the nice review of my piece!

(My excuse: I've been very busy lately converting my life from my previous full time job to semi-retirement and a part-time job, and finding myself busier than I was before. How does that happen?)

You should be safe - punctuation is never counted, so the discussion falls to 'is half-acre counted as one word, or two?' which you don't care, as either leaves you safe. But don't trust Word (or any other word processing software) to get the count right – always check by hand (or abacus, or something that doesn't have its own opinion on what constitutes a 'word') Takes a little time, certainly, but a lot of those programs count ellipses and the like, which can make major differences to the total, and free you some extra characters.

It does matter if Half-acre and tree-like are counted as one word or two. As one I am at 299 as two it would be 301. Maybe I will lose another word somewhere to be safe :cautious:

If I can

Good image... Now to avoid my oft-visited plots involving faerie shenanigans... Hopefully.

Another story from nowhere to the page. Wish my current WIP would do this... *sigh*

Cat's Cradle -- The author takes us deep into a disturbed mind in this sensitive yet chilling tale.

Lumens -- This highly original allegory creates a fascinating new world for the reader to explore.

LittleStar -- With a sure eye for the telling detail, the author presents a sweeping but intimate vision of a lifetime.

Peter V -- This imaginative story of strange alien life reminds us not to make assumptions about things we do not understand.
