DISCUSSION -- JULY 2017 300-word Writing Challenge (#26)

Wonderful story, Teresa. Really fine.

Oy! There are still stories to come, and how can we vote then, with so many amazing entries? Perhaps the poll could be dubbed 'Voting Challenge' this month...

I'm continually impressed by the originality and creativity in the 300 word stories each quarter. Even more than the 75 word stories. It just amazes me how inventive all the authors are, and how much meaning they can put into 300 words. It makes me feel proud to be part of this community.

It makes me feel proud to be part of this community.

And that's the thing isn't it! I feel happy about this because everyone here is -to my mind- a product of this community. I was telling HB and TJ recently that I'd never written anything till I joined here. Everything of value I learn comes from here.

If I ever got published and interviewed, and they asked me where I'd learnt my craft, it would be such an easy answer for me; 'Do you have internet access?'

That's the great thing about this place. I arrived thinking I had it all figured out, I'd read the stories about undiscovered writers becoming the next big thing and I can honestly say - with a lot of cringing :D - that I thought i was going to be a break out success. Came here, got slapped down to earth with crits (a massive thank you to all those who take the time to read and comment, and give your valuable insights.)

I've learned more from people here than I ever could from any writing book, and, while I may never be published, my writing is much better and I enjoy it more because I actually have a grasp of what I'm doing now :)

I thought you were a seasoned pro. It does show the quality. Now I have my entry in, I can get started on reading the rest. Judging by this thread, I have even more to look forward to than usual. :)

Posted. Ye Gods, that was a struggle! Between rewrites, various crises of confidence and the utterly merciless word count, I honestly thought I might not make the deadline this month.

Now, after the eurphoria of submission, it's time to read everyone else's entries and get downhearted at (from my own, overly-critical perspective) being utterly out-classed.
