Discussion Thread -- July 2017 75-word Writing Challenge

Definitely plenty of other good stories too, now that I've read all of them I think this month may be closer than ever, and it's only the 6th in the month.

I just love it how dark some of the stories are :)

I've tried all of your muse magnets to no avail, Starbeast.

[EDIT] oops! I misread the last one. I thought it was 'Stand on the wheeliebins outside your flat smacking yourself on the ar** with the Yellow Pages whilst singing Rule Britannia.' :D

Neighbours threw money though, which was nice. Can't sit down now, which isn't.

I do that most Friday nights (well, the small hours of Saturday really)

Thank you all for the kind remarks about my story. Of course, we all know that @mosaix or @The Judge will swoop in and crush all our attempts like so many ants :). In all seriousness, there are some amazing stories already, and, if I really did set the bar high as @Parson suggested, I have all confidence that there are many here who will rise to the occasion.

Joshua. I hope I didn't come across in a way to suggest your story wasn't good, or anything like that. I think its a fantastic piece; dark, creepy and evocative all in seventy five words. :)

But I don't think we have half of our entries yet, and you always have to watch out for those Chronners who risk their skin they enter so late. :p

Best of luck to those who have already went all in and shown their hand. Be sure to watch out for those who might sneak an ace up their sleeve later on.

No worries; I didn't take it that way at all. As you say, there are some heavy hitters who have not yet posted, and I fully expect that this is going to be a really good month. @mosaix picked a challenging theme, and everyone seems to be rising to the occasion.

Best of luck this month!

@holland .... Reminds us that when toys are alive when unseen there can be some very dire consequences like being "Buried Alive."

Nicely done, a creepy and surprising ending.

@johnnyjet ....Reminds us to be careful what we wish for or we might find ourselves caught in a world of "All Toys, All the Time."

I've always thought that, for me anyway, there's a slight advantage to be gained by the person picking the theme, even inadvertently. There's a possibility that it may relate to something that's already kicking around at the back of one's head.

I'm order to avoid this, I seem to remember, last time I chose something from the title of a book sitting next to me on a shelf.

If this months is 'challenging' blame some old DVDs that were lying around.

I actually think that every month is challenging and I'm always very impressed with people who can post a high quality entry within hours of a new theme going up.

I hope you didn't take my comment as a complaint. I love when these are difficult or outside of my norm. It stretches me to be a better writer, and that is what I am here for in the first place. So, please, keep on getting inspiration from old DVDs if that is what is making these difficult!

Just hope I don't win. Next to my home desktop PC are Carry On Abroad, Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein and A Funny Thing Happend on the Way to the Forum.

I've entered most months since I happened on these Challenges in 2016, and I've always been pleased with my efforts. This month, as usual, I've had the beginnings of an idea, but I may have made a mistake in reading others' excellent entries, as what passes for my creative process has now completely stalled.

I avoid reading other entries until voting. At least that way I have 20 days of blissful ignorance in my own inadequacy.
