Discussion Thread -- September 2017 -- 75 Word Writing Challenge

I can never read the stories until I've done my own, but what I can say is that I'm very much enjoying brushing up my knowledge of the slightly less well known, to me at least, fables and fairy tales. I might get lost in them and not submit anything at this rate. But it's great to be back . . . .

The Real Story Behind Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales

Oh my. This is tougher than the last one, for me.

Looks like it's time to put the old, gas-powered thinking cap on again.

Vroom! Vroom! Kerr-wud wud wud wud wud wud wud wud wud BANG! OWWW! (sniff sniff) Smells like, fried chicken and burnt head cheese around here. Oh. It's me.

@dannymcg .... is working with a machine that gathers food from families. Run when you hear the "Dinner Bell."

I have no idea what nursery rhyme or fairy tale this relates to.."

It was Wee Willie Winkie but I ain't saying no more on it until challenge end :)

@Calliopenjo .... Reminds us that every parent has some disappointment with their children. You can hear that when "A Father's Thoughts" are expressed truly.

@hopewrites .... Shows us that there really was a back story to Jack Horner's Christmas pie plum. It all came together with Jack's last request.

@Culhwch .... When the real story is told often it is "Not so Fair."

@Travis Woodward .... Let's us know the real story behind the clock and "The Last Voyage of the Mouse."

@Wruter .... Tells us a morality tale, when you think only of yourself you wind up with a "Mirror for a Bell."

@Cat's Cradle
.... Aha! The Emperor wasn't fashion forward. He was labor backward when he "Downsized."

Thank you Victoria, and Parson for the very cool reviews!

Parson, I dig your story! Good one. :)

Dinner Bell, @dannymcg – No longer winking and haunted by his harrowing past, the diminutive William Johnston resolves to not let other families share his fate.

They’ll never see it coming, @BigJ – The population of seven planets enjoying their stately celestial dance around a rose-red sun are blissfully unaware of the architect of their impending downfall.

Is The Grass Greener? @nixie – Faced with an arachnid insurrection, a queen is forced from her seat of power to seek refuge with relatives she has little in common with.

Hey Diddle Diddle, @Dave Barsby – This story of starships racing through the void features a curious selection of motley characters that makes it feel oddly familiar. The winner must be over the moon!

@Peter V .... Opens out eyes to the scary in the mundane. It only looked "Like a Teddy Bear."

A Father’s Thoughts, @Calliopenjo – A father laments how the real world took advantage of his real boy.

Jack’s Last Request, @hopewrites – One last desperate gamble saves the life of a death row prisoner. Genie-ous.

Not So Fair, @Culhwch – This evocative, tragic tale shows that few things are as black or (snow) white as they first appear.

The Last Voyage of the Mouse, @Travis Woodward – Faced with a hostile enemy fleet and no time, a starship pilot makes a desperate bid to save the populace of his home station. They’ll never see it coming.
