Thanks - I thought it'd be nice to give an alternative view. I find most apocalyptic fiction focuses on the hardship. I didn't specify how long after the apocalypse my 75 worder takes place but I suspect if the majority of mankind were to be wiped out the survivors would find things to be sad about and cheerful about in equal measure after a generation or two. I think that is part of the human condition, you can only be miserable for so long before you get up and do something about it! That isn't to say hardship wouldn't exist, merely to say that recognising hardship doesn't negate our ability to recognise beauty also.

Thank you, Lady Victoria. I had trouble thinking of something for a while. But then I thought, "What might happen to me in this bleak situation."

@Starbeast .... 3000 Miles to the Ultimate Music Store .... Gives us a tale that reminds us of the worst possible ear worm.

@Teresa Edgerton .... Occidere nuntius .... A story which surely lives up to it's name and leaves you wondering about humans, revenge, and common sense.

T.E. --- If that story was meant to make us sigh with regret and understanding of the human situation it surely did for me. Well done!

@EPT Henry .... Alone .... The story which reminds us that there is very little which doesn't have some redeeming quality for someone.

Henry this was made me ponder on human ability to forget and to focus on old #1. It made me sad, but I also understood deeply (having some undoubted introverted characteristics.)

And I'm in.

The first draft came in at 132 words, which was probably a little too long. So after a bit of hacking I got it down to 60, which allowed me to expand a bit.

I think I might have been a little too optimistic trying to do what I wanted, but am happy with the outcome over all.

I keep telling myself to try and do something simple, don't try and over-complicate things then each month off I go...
