I love how it’s ‘compact’, although, having worked on some legacy IT systems in the 80s with similar storage systems, they filled entire rooms - featuring brutal air conditioning and strengthened floors.

There was a time when people used to use the chad from those paper tape punches as confetti. Unfortunately the, because of the nature of the paper and precise punches, the edge of the chad was unexpectedly sharp and eye injuries were reported.

I suspect a staged photograph. I was a senior in college in 1972 and those would be the choices for a night out, not for class. (Note especially the footwear.)
