Discussion Thread -- April 2018 75-word Writing Challenge

@RJM Corbet .... Untitled ....
Mr. Corbet pokes fun of his own identity ...

Moonbat -- This clever satire considers the way in which technology can control our lives.

unbusy thing -- This comic tale reveals how politics can be more ridiculous than anything else.

LittleStar -- This moving story demonstrates hope and courage in the face of tragedy.

Shyrka -- This witty fantasy shows characters who take fate into their own hands.

The Judge -- This pastiche of a famous series of stories ponders the close relationship between good and evil.

Ursa major -- This highly plausible biological speculation uses wordplay to make a serious point.

RJM Corbet -- This self-referential meditation reveals the power of creative thought.

HazelRah -- This emotional story portrays the powerful effect mourning has our lives.

Teresa Edgerton -- This imaginative variation on the theme of heroism shows how expectations are not always fulfilled.

chrispenycate -- This philosophical poem ponders the relationship between the individual and society.

paranoid marvin -- This tricky riddle is sure to test the reader's wits.

Thanks for trying to be nice, guys. Mine was a very poor effort. Only later did I think about writing a story around 'small talk' lol. Thanks again ...

For a while I was completely torn between Hugh, Perp and Dan... all such different stories, all very well written...
But in the end I had to pick one. So I voted for Dan, because the more I thought about it... the more I found it a plausible prediction of our future :unsure::barefoot:

I greatly enjoyed the challenge this month; there were a plethera of great stories which are deserving of mention. A few rose to the top, though.

@HoopyFrood: a biting parable about how we pretend to be on social media.

@Parson: such a vivid description of the transient nature and cost of identifying with a business, rather than something more permanent.

@SPoots: because every reasonable person hated Clippy...

@The Judge: so much characterization in so few words...well done.

Ultimately, my vote went to @HoopyFrood. Well done everyone!

A bit disappointed that I didn't manage to get a suitable entry done for this one, but I have read all of the stories, and my vote goes to @HoopyFrood for an impeccably well written short. There were several other great entries though so well done to all who managed to enter one in time. Also to @SPoots for making me chuckle.

Well, the entries seem particularly skilled this month, and I've found it difficult to winnow down the contenders. Several stories, while very well written, for me, just do not have enough jingle jangle to make the neurotransmitters dance in my synapses, but would probably have made my list in other months.

So, the following caught my eye for one reason or another:
@Joshua Jones
@M. Robert Gibson
@Dan Jones
@Cat's Cradle
@TheDustyZebra
@Culhwch
@johnnyjet

My runner-up was @D.A. Xiaolin Spires: I live by the sea and know all too well just how much seagulls seem to need to mark a newly cleaned car.

My winner: @Peter V . The ending hit the spot, and the bell signalling "winner" sounded loud and clear.

Many thanks @HazelRah . It's truly wonderful to make the podium. To hear my anthem played would just be icing on the cake. I'll take cake any day with or without icing.

Thanks @RJM Corbet and @Hugh for the mentions! Unfortunately, @Parson informed me that I haven't made it to the 1000 post buffet, so I am stuck sending you muffins from the continental breakfast, rather than a proper cake...
You came second in my eventual choice very narrowly (is there such a word) to @HoopyFrood, lol. I really had to weigh it. I loved your entry.

Wow, thank you for the high praise. I voted for @HoopyFrood as well, so I can't say I blame you for deciding that direction. I may have to try to sneak into the buffet and get you some cake...

I'm still unsure as to the truth in the rumours that the 1000 post club is a front for the Illuminati.

I joined 2011 and doubt I've made it yet, lol. Haven't checked ...

EDIT: just did: 2215 posts. Wow. Gee! Who would have ever thought: so, if this was an office, I'd have to buy cake, but ain't no office ...

That' s why you haven't been initiated, no entry without cake .
Duely noted; in 665 comments, I will make sure cake is presented. One of my minions may have to forcibly aquire it from a local bakery, but you made no qualifications about sourcing...
