DISCUSSION -- November 2018 -- 85 Word Challenge

15. Aun Doorback: A sweeping vision of theological speculation, with a lesson about the limits of human knowledge.

16. D G Coates: A darkly comic bit of magic realism and surrealism, with a wry look at way in which sports can become an all-encompassing passion.

More reviews will be coming, but I'm in the zone right now and I need to work on my project, no worries there, good folks of the Chroniverse. Your friendly neighborhood sillyman will not abandon you to the wolves.

I'm probably the only one that's going to say this, but here goes anyway. I had no idea what to do with this prompt. As a last minute effort to put something together that resembles a story, I created that collection of words over yonder.

Parson takes another look at the calendar? Yup, it says Nov. 5. Why are all these early stories coming so early? Is it the ease of an 85 word story as compared to a 75? Is it the end of daylight saving time in the States giving everyone the gift of an extra hour to write? Is it the theme and/or the genre? Whatever it is, we are nearing half ordinary number of stories for a normal month. --- I think that's a good thing in all ways except that it puts us reviewers consistently behind in our ruminations.

@Vince W .... It’s A Numbers Game .... Vince writes a tale which might create a little sympathy for the Prince of Lies.

@Ashleyne .... 1 SIN EACH .... Ash gives us a tale of macabre horror as she looks inside a serial killers mind.

@Heijan Xavier .... Eleven Hopes .... Heijan relates a horror of biblical proportions inside a prophecy.

@Cathbad .... Murder for Numbers .... Cathbad combines cryptography, justice, and a deal with a devil into a SF yarn to remember.

@Cat's Cradle .... Six or Seven .... Cat shows us how numbers can be a weapon of terror and torture.

@Aun Doorback .... Proverbs 3:5-6 .... Aun creates a scenario where the numbers fail and faith remains.

@D G Coates .... THREE-POINTERS .... D G tells a tale of basketball gone absolutely insane.

@Calliopenjo .... Computer Game .... Calli has devised a seriously deadly and devilishly simple computer game story.

@dannymcg .... Commute flight .... Danny tells a story which sums up to a very memorable ending.

@mosaix .... Now Look What They've Done .... Mosaix (otherwise known as the ten win man) makes me want to go "It's the only thing I could do half right and it's turning out all wrong, Ma"

So there we have it. Nineteen stories in just five days. Could the impossible dream of 70 be attainable? Certainly the variety of the stories that have been posted leaves me believing that there will not be any lack of credible plots.

@Daysman .... Fortunate One .... writes a story that reminds me of the book of Proverbs, deep meaning in simple words.

Daysman, welcome to the 75 (in this case 85) word challenge. Nice story. Hope to hear more from you.

Such a good start to the Challenge, and as Parson mentioned, so many stories, so early! @Daysman, I think your story is terrific, well done. 70 entries would be amazing, Parson. I wonder what our highest-ever total of stories was? CC

ps - thank you, Victoria Silverwolf, and Parson for the very fine reviews.

Hm .... Looks like my memory was faulty. I knew that we had had several months in the sixties but did not remember a month when we had 75! stories. Well that makes a goal of 70 highly possible. :)

@Tywin .... To Help With the Sorting Later .... Tywin writes a chilling tale of government over involvement. One can't help thinking of the "mark of the Beast."

Hi, since we're talking #s of entries, I went back to the last time Legacy was the theme and guess how many entries? Wrong, 47, same as this time AND 15 of the same Chroners were entered. The more things change the more they remain the same. ( Parson seemed to be a little more of a romantic back then and Chrispenycate was already a poet.) Ahh, where would we be without history? Floating in a timeless sea with no beginning, middle or end, much like this rambling. Have a nice day. :ninja:
