My amost short list consisted of: Abernovo, Artoriarius, Daysman, elvet, Luiglin, Margaret Note Spelling, Ursa major and Vince W though I could probably double that. Finally I went for Esmerelda Margret note Spelling, only to discover everyone else had too.

Many thanks to Pyan for the vote.

My shortlist came together pretty quickly this time. It was interesting which ones went down the fable route (harder, IMO) and which went more conventional - I actually ended up rejecting my first attempt when I realised it wasn't hitting the genre closely enough. Gutted!

Favourites and ** vote **

** Luiglin - Without a Song of His Own **
Victoria Silverwolf - The Artisan

Mosaix - The Fox And The Rabbit
Peter V - Escaping the Labyrinth
Parson - A Candle For Lucy
MikeAnderson - Metus Obscuritatis
Vince W - An Eternal Friend
Abernovo - Curaidh Sgàil
The Judge - And, always, always have a lawyer draw up your contracts

@Parson You're very welcome. Wonderful story. Tons of great stories in this competition.

@Marvin Surprise, surprise. The images that appeared in my mind as I read your tale enchanted me. Astonishing Sci-Fi.

I'm afraid I missed this month's challenge - a combination of losing track of time and life getting in the way :(

However, I have made time to read them all (an impressive array as always folks!) and voted for @Victoria Silverwolf; such a clever idea and a tale filled with a sense of poignancy.

I'll be back next month and need to get something together for the 300!

Thank you for the mention, Hugh.

@Abernovo For making me want more.
@Abernovo Awesome adventure tale. I want more.
Thank you, elvet and Starbeast! Those sort of comments are heartwarming. Not to blow my own trumpet, but I've had a few such comments, from different people, in the last couple of months. It certainly boosts the confidence. :love:

I loved the story by @Parson, and found @The Judge's entry hilarious -- I also recognise the advice to tether your camel. :D

@TheDustyZebra, I'd love to read a full story behind your 75. Please?

But my vote, along with many others apparently, goes to @Margaret Note Spelling, who's produced an incredible example of a meta story, creating a fable which depicts the very creation of mythology.

I feel these stories most ticked the boxes for the Theme and Genre.
A more than slightly hypocritical statement considering I side stepped, and wrote about the creation of a myth, rather than actually trying to write one. Kudos to those who managed that feat!

Honourable mention for:
@Elckerlyc
@D3athw4lker
@Parson
@Vince W

Vote goes to:
@Kharn

A testing task admirably tackled by all, with some excellent results.
Well done everyone as always.

:D I don't know what to say! "Thanks, everyone" hardly seems to cut it anymore--you've all been saying such lovely things. Someone really needs to invent a word just for "overwhelming gratitude (and the attendant confusion about what to say in response!)".

(No, wait, the Germans probably have one already. I've heard they actually have one single word for, "It only works when I try to show you how it does not work." We need a word like that!

Although now I wonder what the single most complex meaning for an English word is.)
