Discussion - January 2020 - 75 word writing challenge

@Karn's Return .... Of a Different Nature .... Karn tells a tale of pets in captivity which might give us some new insights.

@Luiglin .... Cognizant Artificial Telos .... Luiglin writes us a story in which telos is magnificently seen. I wanted to purr.

We have a long time to wait until voting is open here, so if you've a mind to read good stories and you want to vote on it -- here's your chance POLL -- Kraxon Magazine Story of the Year for 2019 -- READ FIRST POST!

Three votes are available, but as per the 300 Worder, they all have to be made at the same time.

There's £100 for the winning story -- so get voting!

Nice idea for the challenge @dannymcg

Ironically, I had an idea for the 300 first. Yesterday I came up with two ideas for the 75. I chose and submitted.

Now that I'm in.......where's the buffet? :p

@dannymcg Star Trek/pets. I'm glad you didn't. There would have been about twelve Data and Spot tales. Although it would be funny to read about a kitten fighting bloated Tribbles that mostly lounge around.

I‘m in, I decided I had better include the title in the count in case it is viewed as a vital part of the whole.
Variation on a theme already done twice (maybe more?) so far, but it was in my head before reading others, so I stuck with it.
Enjoyed that one, thanks @dannymcg

I found it difficult to keep to the 75 words. Any thoughts on how to self edit with those kind of constraints? How do you convey other elements that are part of you thoughts while heavily editing what you write or is that the point, "Keep it Concise"?
That's all part of the experience.
I'm often twice the allowed words and then the editing destroys my story.

And welcome to Chronicles btw

I think that's the trick -- trying to make sure you haven't got too much story for the length. If what I'm writing feels like it's going to be too big, then I'll cut my losses and start again. If you look at the types of stories that win, I think you'll usually find a simple narrative, well executed, and rarely something complex squished down into seventy-five words.

Oh, and keep what you toss, because it always might fit a three hundred worder some day!
