DISCUSSION THREAD -- May 2020 -- 75-Word Writing Challenge

So many mentions this month! Big thanks to @BT Jones , @Starbeast , @Parson , @sule , and @M. Robert Gibson .
My long list:
@Astro Pen
@mosaix
@chrispenycate
@Bren G
@Culhwch
My short list:
@sule
@Hugh
@Phyrebrat
Vote goes to @HoopyFrood . I loved the twist.

While the wait is on for the next 75, don't forget about the 100 Word Anonymous Challenge going on in the Workshop Forum here . Entries can be PM'd to me until the 15th of June, so plenty of time to work on the topic of Time Warping with a Horse. (Yes, you heard that right).

M. Robert Gibson: Even the most innocent thing can be a danger.

johnnyjet: Make sure you know who you're talking to before you open your mouth.

Ashleyne: Bad things come in small packages.

Perpetual Man: Even languages we cannot understand may speak to us.

Stable: Some rewards require great sacrifice to be won.

Parson: The things you can't see are more frightening that those you can.

BigJ: Even archetypes can be surprised.

StilLearning: Some encounters are more meaningful than they seem.

Vince W: Anonymous communications carry hazards.

Maya13: From the end may come a new beginning.

Culhwch: Help can come from the most unlikely sources.

Ursa major: Beware the consequences of the green-eyed monster.

TheDustyZebra: Look to nature for clues to human behavior.

In a bit of a rush, so I'll just say that the vote goes to BigJ for creating an air of mystery.

Just have a few moments. Here are my listings:

Honorables:
Phyrebrat, M. Robert Gibson, Culhwch, TheDustyZebra

Finalists:
Victoria Silverwolf, Starbeast, Hugh

I had a very tough time deciding from my finalists, but finally went with Hugh's fine story.

Big thanks to those who've listed me! :) CC

It was difficult to pick favorites this time, but I finally settled on the following. Now which is my favorite? Hmmm. Even tougher...

The Reign of Darkness - Victoria Silverwolf
Night Terrors - paranoid marvin
Garden Gnome – Calliopenjo
Reckoning of Crows – AMB
The Hunger From the Void - Cat's Cradle
The Nightjar and the Problem-Child – Phyrebrat
Approaching Menace - M. Robert Gibson
BEWARE – Ashleyne
What Truth Do Dreams Tell? - Perpetual Man
Ninox strenua – Culhwch
That's What You Get – TheDustyZebra

How about that?

It's neck and neck with the mighty @Starbeast going into the final furlong !

May the winds of space be kind to you great Star Traveller!

And many many thanks to @AMB , @Culhwch and @Cat's Cradle for putting me in this unusual position, and also to @Stable , @Elckerlyc , @nixie , @elvet and of course @Starbeast for the mentions. It's the mentions that make all the difference most months.

Sorry I didn't enter my own challenge. I've not really had chance to concentrate on it.

We missed you. Hope you can join us next time. The 100 Anonymous Challenge is still open.

How about that?

It's neck and neck with the mighty @Starbeast going into the final furlong !

May the winds of space be kind to you great Star Traveller!

Thanks bro.
And may your troubles be less,
your blessings be more,
and nothing but happiness,
come through your door.

It is pretty exciting.

So, I missed entering this month... I had a vague idea early in, which has been rare lately, but for the last few months I’ve felt like it’s been more of a chore to write my entries, and I think that shows in my last few attempts, they weren’t my best. I feel my efforts are better spent on my WIP for now.
So maybe a month or two break might recharge my batteries, and I’ll be back...

That doesn’t mean I can’t read everyone’s fine stories and cast my stone in the voting bucket.
Victoria takes the prize this month, with Starbeast and Kharn close behind.

My vote goes to @Hugh
Loved it the moment I first read it.
Still a little unsure what weird fiction is, but this little story sure seemed weird enough for me.

Many many thanks to @TheEndIsNigh for a very precious vote.

Further thanks to @BT Jones and @sule for the mentions.

Great stuff everybody, very interesting month. As predicted by someone, a lot of actual owls.

Here are the full results of the Ursa jury, with the stories in posting order within the categories:

Congratulations, Hugh!

I wasn't expecting much from my entry this month, so thanks to StillLearning and johnnyjet for the mentions.

@Ursa major quiz time: there were just shy of 20 crows in my story. What was the initial title I rejected before posting?

Congrats Hugh!

Poll closed? It was still showing for me earlier on 28th as closing tomorrow, 29th. I've got Friday off and planned to sit in the garden having a read before voting.

Edit: I know I can, and will, do that but it won't be the same without being able to hit the radio button. Sorry folks.

Congrats @Hugh.

Thanks for the votes @Hugh , @Daysman and @Guttersnipe plus the mentions folks.
