DISCUSSION THREAD JULY 2020 75-WORD WRITING CHALLENGE

I didn 't though because I'm nice and polite :p
That might be the problem. You forgot to bring your cricket bat.
That lot must not follow Chuck Wendig's blogs. Especially his three sentence story challenge.
Since I'm not quite as polite I find Facebook infinitely easier to navigate when one accessorises with full combat gear and a flamethrower whilst shouting something about Pirates and "No Prisoners! No Survivors! ".

As an aside, just helped someone out on a facebook fantasy writers group who was asking how he could write a story in 75 words.

Surprised that the gist of a fair few of the replies were that it couldn't be done
Well, it obviously can't. Particularly by someone loquacious like myself, who will never use one word if fourteen can be squeezed in somehow:

I mean, seventy-five words, it's ridiculous. :D

Good day, Trollheart. Thanks for the review. I wouldn't normally discuss my story before voting finishes, but I want to say one thing, here - I wrote this as a story about exploitative opportunism, not Christianity. The setting is church-like, but I was condemning the way some people will take advantage of other folks, using any means possible to fool them. Hope it hasn't offended anyone.

I understood what you were trying to say, so you needn’t think that your writing was obscure in any way. Yours was an excellent entry in a competition which has proved to be full of entries achieving an extremely high standard. I know I shouldn’t be surprised, because it’s been said plenty of times before here and elsewhere, but I had assumed that was all just a bit of professionally polite hyperbole...

How kind, Provincial, thank you! What a nice way to start a day.

And you're so right - this group does produce wonderful stories every month. Honestly, just receiving a listing is a great thing, but a vote - wow! :)

11 voters for 11 stories so far.
Could we have a tie break month.

What is the lowest amount of votes to have come top (or joint top) I.e. the most spread out month of voting?

From Trollheart’s reviews:

Beginner's Piece

For a moment I thought the opening lines were an entreaty from the author! Nice little story; simple, sweet, though I don't quite understand it (I don't like cocoa).

Hi Trollheart,

Would it help if I told you that the fifth element is love? In a way, it is similar to the previous story, where the fifth element is surprise.

I loved Land Under Wave’s entry. It got me right where it hurts, in the heart.

Amazing! A vote! Aieee! Many thanks @Iwroteathing
A vote (or a mention) always feels such a wonderful surprise given the number and quality of entries.

It looks like Professional Man has just taken a second vote!

I've been called many things on this site of the years, but never Professional Man. I kind of like it! (It's better than P-Man that sounded like a superhero with a particularly embarrassing problem in the waterworks area.

Perp it still the one of choice, although I am partial to the special one from Hoops and Nixie,

I don't have the time to throw myself into the discussion as once I did, but I do try and keep an eye on things and always enjoy everything that is said in the chats., and have managed to produce something for the 75 & 300 word challenges - some months that surprises me.

Even more so when I get a vote, so many thanks to TEiN and Ambrose, the cheque is in the post. (Or not)

Unfortunately, the way my mind works I will be calling you Professional Perp, or The Prof, before the week is out, and will be supremely confident that I have it right... sorry sorry sorry...
