DISCUSSION THREAD -- October 2021 -- 75 Word Writing Challenge

Honourable mentions
@Guttersnipe - Nice twist. Makes the short list even with what I thought could be a plot hole. (Naughton physically takes the money, then passes through the door.)
@Betok_Haney - Both spooky & warm hearted. Can Mom see/feel Dad or is it just the sort of thing people say. I like to wonder.
@Bren G - Nice idea and structure.
@Peter V - A complex dynamic going on here. Would love to know the resolution.
@Hugh - Surreal idea but very fun.

Vote
@Daysman - Just ticked my boxes this one & so it got my vote.

(Personal gripe. I come to this forum to get away from political nonsense. It would be a shame if it creeps in via story telling. Doubt there is any rules against it. Like I said, just a personal thing, I will say no more.)

Short listed these ghost stories:

A Change in Focus by @Betok_Haney because of its sweet subtle treatment of the departed.
Be patient, it may be you by @nixie because of its true to life experience of the ghosts which haunt those suffering dementia.
The wall by @WSDuffy because if ghosts were real this is what I would expect of them.
Trolling Down Memory Lane by @johnnyjet because of the romantic touch it gives to ghosts.
Entanglement by @sule because it's a nerdy pick up line that only a ghost could use.
Ghost House by @The Judge because it's a wonderful twist to make something inanimate a ghost.

Bronze medal: @nixie
Silver medal: @WSDuffy
Gold medal vote: @Betok_Haney

Shortlist:
"Goodnight!" by Elckerlyc
In Social Media Res by Phyrebrat
Depopulation by Victoria Silverwolf
It's a boy... by Marvin

Vote:
The Cursed Traveller by Venusian Broon

Thanks, @Marvin. I thought about the whole money being tangible idea and think that, if ghosts are real, maybe there are ones who can mess with physical properties somehow. You've a good point, though.

The pitter patter of feet running into the distance, followed by rummaging, some mumbling and muttering and the odd swear word, but only one or two, in case Judge might hear. Bowler1 soon returns with just the right choice of RAY GUN slung low in a comfortable hip holster, smiling as ever, but with a sparkle in his eye this time.

Ahem....

Droflet my dear... would you care to make a wager with me on that possible outcome?

Not with you, young man, or woman. This was meant for TEiN. On a totally unrelated issue.

Inevitably I suppose, bearing in mind the topic, I found many of these stories deeply moving. The wonderful thing is that so many of them were really positive, too.

I voted for @WSDuffy because the story particularly chimed with me, but there was some amazing stuff to choose from. @AnRoinnUltra and @Elckerlyc both made me laugh out loud, while @Betok_Haney, @Daysman, @Astro Pen, @Luiglin, @sule and @The Judge were really enjoyable and any one of them could have had my vote - it was so difficult to choose.

Special mention for @Deni, nice story.

It was an interesting round of stories and more so, when I discovered who I vote for. You see, I move the left side of my browser to hide the names of each writer while I read them so there is absolutely no bias involved, and low and behold I picked the person who voted for me! I was in need of humour today so it fit the bill perfectly!

Short List
A Change in Focus - @Betok_Haney - a ghostly photobomb radiates love at ground zero
Looking Past the Present - @Peter V - a heart-warming tale of the love that binds us together
Containment of Evil - @Starbeast - Bringing the Peanuts gang into the future was pure genius! The only thing missing was Bart Simpson's famous admonishment.
In Social Medias Res - @Phyrebrat - social media as divined by a social medium. This story was very clever indeed!

Vote
Not a Yuletide Canticle - @M. Robert Gibson - A humorous behind the scenes look into this classic tale that leaves us with a 'punchy' ending.

M. Robert Gibson: All kinds of workers need to take breaks.

Hugh: Demand may be more important than supply.

sule: Some bonds are never broken.

chrispenycate: Evolution is never ending.

Deni: Help may come from an unexpected source.

Marvin: Family is the source of our most profound emotions.

Moonbat: Some decisions have dire consequences.

StilLearning: Time holds many surprises.

Venusian Broon: Be wary with whom you associate.

The Judge: Inanimate things can, at times, feel alive.

Ursa major: Technology frequently works in ways we don't understand.

Abernovo: Some legends will continue for a very long time.

Perpetual Man: Perceptions depend on one's point of view.

Vote goes to sule for making an advanced scientific concept the source of powerful emotion.
