DISCUSSION THREAD -- October 2021 -- 300 Word Writing Challenge #43

@Parson when I mean awful, I'm referring to the humour... although I do understand that for some, the term awful for my writing does has another connotation :)

That's a beautiful piece of photography.

Or maybe Indiana Jones and the Last Cruise Aid?
Mods: I wish to report that Ursa may have infected others with the Punning Virus!

GROAN! :ROFLMAO:

A pun is like a skunk, it's a common helpful animal that everyone judges by it's stinkiest moments.
Are you calling me a skunk? That's punning talk from where I come from, bad jokes at 10 paces. If I had a Christmas Cracker, I'd have been slapping you around the face with it and demanding satisfaction at a time and place of your choosing... not too early though as I like a lie in. :p

You mean awful in the Dick Emery sense, I'm sure. Sadly it's a cultural reference that is so niche not even a Mr Baggins houseboat could squeeze through it.

For those who do not know the Mandy character of Dick Emery;

Maybe not entirely socially correct these days but a bit of daft innuendo never hurt anyone.

Educated, I'm sure I am, now. Of course this Iowa farm boy had no clue who "Dick Emery" was, but a quick Google and then @Luiglin provided the clip. But I do know that there are people who keep skunks for pets, and that they are as fastidious as a cat. (Hm, maybe that isn't a recommendation. A couple of our daughter's cats found the litter box optional.) They are also have my rodent ridding respect.

Well now, that's not a cheerful story. A little hopeful, maybe. Hey ho, time to let it settle.

I am not sure about anyone else, but I am absolutely stumped on this challenge. I keep the photo up all day, and I look at it here and there, think about it, and I gots nuthin.

Oh I beseech thee, gods of muse, anoint your humble servant with a mere drop of creative juice!

@Betok_Haney .... Remember it's a story which is inspired by the picture. Looking at the picture you could think about the beans you are having for supper and decide to write a story about what a magical fruit beans are. That story would be fully within the rules.

(full disclosure: There may be some people (not I) who would look a bit more poorly at a story whose origins looked to be other than obviously from the picture.)

Damn, why does the 300-worder have to be so... three-hundredy? I've got an emaciated corpse of a story sitting before me and its still 350 words. I'll just have to pulverize its bones, I suppose...
