DISCUSSION THREAD -- October 2021 -- 300 Word Writing Challenge #43

Thanks for the shortlistings Bren G and BT Jones. :)

Ursa, sule and mosaix get my votes for incredibly well written, inventive stories.

therapist makes my shortlist for a particularly chilling tale as does Starbeast who (as always) excels with such energetic, chaotic humour.

There are many other entries of such a high standard that quite honestly any could be deemed a worthy winner.

Hm, time to vote. I did not enter this because I was totally bereft of an idea. The picture inclined me toward horror and I incline away from it, and never the twain did meet. But I might not have been the only one with less than a clear idea. I don't believe I've ever seen a greater range of stories.

---------

Short listed

Gloriana Days by @Rafellin because it felt like the ending to a story like The Hobbit.
How Bill and I Doomed Humanity by @bedyak because it makes the momentous seem mundane.
Wanderlust by @Betok_Haney because of it's ability to make sense of a cross species constant. And it made me think of the well sung line: "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose."
Human Error by @paranoid marvin because of the ending I never, ever, saw coming. It was delicious.
Drinks for the Thirsty, Graves for the Dead by @Starbeast for an absolutely irreverent story which must end with a raspberry and a bird.
The Land of Lost Content by @The Judge for a story that counters the truism that you can't go home again.
Continuing the Traditions by @Abernovo for the kind of story that I love to read filed with hope, family, and a future.

Voted for Human Error, The Land of Lost Content, and Continuing the Traditions.

*I didn't click well. I accidently voted for Mercy of a Kind instead of Human Error. --- Sorry.

Many thanks to BT Jones and BrenG for the mentions. Amongst 38 brilliant entries, I was expecting much. Most appreciated.

Thanks to @BT Jones and @paranoid marvin for the shortlists and @Droflet for a vote! Was thrilled to see that.

My shortlist : @sule @Victoria Silverwolf @AnRoinnUltra @BT Jones @Rafellin
My votes go to
@Dan Jones another delightfully erotic and unctuous instalment of the Travels of Sir Reginald Rigmarole
@paranoid marvin a simple and whimsical slice of life that is hard not to like
@Betok_Haney an endearing story of a rebellious and misunderstood spider using her cleverness to forge her own path.

I log on to find three votes, and some great comments. Thanks Parson, Provincial and therapist! :) (No worries with the voting Parson, it's easily done when casting 3 simultaneously) (y)

Thank you @bedyak for the stealth vote. That has made my day.
I had to! I re read it a few times and it was just so indefinably nostalgic and bright, with an optimistic tone in the word choice. I was disappointed when it was over in just 300 words. Thank you for sharing with us. Although I will say voting is always so difficult!

Only 18 people have voted, when 37 or so stories were submitted? That’s a bit sad. Let’s hope the stats improve over the weekend.

That is 11,000 words to get through.
Also human nature (and I see the irony of this). Don't underestimate how totally demotivating it is to give it your best shot and yet see you have zero votes on your story while others are romping up. ( not me btw, but I have been there :giggle: ).

I don't know if it's possible to pin the vote threads to the top of the forum and the top of the What's New so they get more views. I don't mean the top of the forum the post is in; I mean the top of the main forum page.

Personally, I use What's New mostly to see what has been posted recently, but it cycles so fast that a lot of the time the voting threads are gone quickly and never reappear.
