DISCUSSION THREAD -- January 2022 -- 300 Word Writing Challenge #44

@WSDuffy .... The Sun Queen .... This is a quietly reflective story which shows, to any who are willing to understand, a general truth in a particular situation that there's a balance of joy and sorrow in every committed relationship.

????????? Parson goes to look for a new 300 from @Astro Pen ...... Found, How did I miss this?? .... Very sorry, and I'm glad you called my attention to it.

-----

@Astro Pen .... Here, inside .... Astro Pen writes us a tale that makes us consider our own mortality and exactly what makes us real.

Cat's Cradle: The intensity of this surrealistic and introspective horror story comes from its unusual combination of interior and exterior terrors. In this way, the reader comes to understand the fragility of reality.

paranoid marvin: The quiet style of this classic ghost story draws the reader out of the mundane world and into one of fathomless mysteries. The matter-of-fact tone makes the supernatural seem real.

johnnyjet: With a carefully calculated, slowly building sense of suspense, the author transforms the story from drama to mystery to fairy tale and then something beyond any of these. Through the use of a first-person narrator, this transition comes to life.

Phyrebrat: A haunting sense of Gothic brooding runs through this tale of loss and mourning. The unpredictability of the denouement is a fitting climax to its mood of lamentation.

WSDuffy: A new myth is born in this poetic and emotional account of anticipation. The author manages to honor traditional legends, while offering a truly original vision.

farntfar: The author carries us deep into the mind of a seemingly disturbed character in this eerie and haunting psychological story. Yet the cool logic and calm assurance of the character force us to wonder if we are the ones out of touch with reality.

@farntfar .... PRAY SILENCE FOR.. .... Farnfar gives us a whole new context for the idea of bats in the belfry.

Thank you so much for your kind review of my entry Victoria.
And I did enjoy your take on it @Parson. It pretty much sums me up. :)

There are some really great entries so far this month. And such a lovely photo from Mouse.

@Luiglin .... ...of the same coin .... Having one's fates controlled leaves many with an overwhelming need for their own control at pretty much any cost.

BT Jones: This philosophical meditation on the ephemeral nature of our lives allows the reader to understand the importance of memory. In a melancholy world of loss and regret, retreating into the past may be a rational choice.

@BT Jones .... The Gossamer Veil .... Unrequited love makes the heart grow eloquent and strident in equal measures.

Dan Jones: In this mile-a-minute madcap farce the reader can sense the author's joy of creation, unbounded by any restrictions. In the time-honored fashion of the great comic writers, there is a sharp look at humanity's foibles hidden under the merry surface.

Everybody said before the challenge opened that there would be a proliferation of ghost stories. Which, when you think about it, is strange, given it's a very beautiful photograph. I think the face that the bride's face is hidden gives the picture an uncanny look, and the metaphorical idea of stepping beyond the threshold into a completely new world.

I was struggling until yesterday. There's still time!

I think there is a proliferation of ghosties because @Mouse is dead to me. She promised me her hand in marriage but then I found out I had to take the rest of her body so I was out.

I only needed one hand for my Hand of Glory ritual and I didn’t have enough candles for a whole cadaver.

No offence…

Well, you could have taken the hand and promise that you will come back for the rest later. It wouldn't be the worlds first marital promise to be broken...

Edit: inserted an omitted word.
