Discussion Thread -- May 2022 75 Word Writing Challenge

a writing teacher had assigned students to write some 75 word stories and most of them just couldn't do it.

After just diving in and trying it, I think the difficulty lies in overthinking it. I opened as if it was a story that didn't have to worry about word-count, skipped over a lot of detail, realized I was halfway there, and tied it off. Or maybe it's because I often have one-paragraph descriptions where I don't go into loving detail about something happening because it can easily be summed-up in a short space.

@Wayne Mack .... Beyond the End .... Sometimes infinity has to be given it's due in that it is the province of God.

@Bramandin .... Outside of Time .... Sometimes infinity is its own reward, or maybe that's punishment.

I have found that for me in doing 75 word stories, I am learning how to write more in fewer words. I have a greater appreciation for mastering the written word now. Except, it doesn't help in writing my novels...more words needed there!

I love the 75 word limit. Long enough that you can tell a story, but short enough that you can finish it in an hour or two. It doesn't distract (too much) from my current WIPs, and I don't worry about publishing them here as I view mine more as writing exercises than publishable pieces. Granted, I've only submitted once  but my second one is currently simmering on the back burner right now.

It was just as fun to write as the first one.

Yes, but they need to be meaningful words and the 75 makes us think about how significant each word can be.
Very true! I'm getting there with the 75-word challenge, but I have aways to go. Great writing and thinking exercise for sure!
I also try to write other 75-word stories for myself too.
One thing I have learned here on Chronicles is that there is more thinking and planning involved in writing than I first thought.
Probably the best writing lessons I have learned have been here.

My AC has not been working for over a week. Through the sweaty days I pushed on to read Challenge stories, vote and develop my May 75 tale, then post it. Hopefully tomorrow the AC will be repaired and I can get some decent sleep. o_O

I may be frying like an egg in my home. But I'm able to keep my sunny-side up. :D

@OuttaInc .... Upon Reflection... .... Sometimes infinity is in the eye of the beholder and lacks real substance.

@Starbeast .... The Cat-Man Who Wanted Infinite Life .... Sometimes wanting infinity and getting it are not as good as could be imagined.

@Hugh .... Right Here…. .... Sometimes infinity is hard to hang on to.

@mosaix .... The Grass Is Always the Same Colour… .... Sometimes infinity helps us to understand that life circles around like a wheel.

Well, that's me in with one for any programmers amongst us.
I realise I'm probably setting myself up for no mentions or votes, but it amused me.
Brownie points for anyone who gets the Infinity connection.
I'll explain after the voting, on the off chance anyone cares. ;)
