Discussion Thread -- May 2022 75 Word Writing Challenge

@Bowler1-- Parson remembers Sunday School memory work. "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Walks up and starts picking flowers from the biggest bunch of flowers he's ever seen.

Seems like I've been out of the loop for an eternity *groans at own puns* but I've managed to duck out of my chaotic life long enough to read through this month's stories. What a treat! There were so many good ones, my short list is actually quite long...

Short list:
@Astro Pen
@Mon0Zer0
@BT Jones
@Bowler1
@paranoid marvin
@mosaix
@Christine Wheelwright

Short short list (the ones I read and re-read a few times because they were so thought-provoking):
@SRDFrench
@Aknot
@Hugh
@therapist

And (in my opinion) this month's Winner: @JS Wiig for being the perfect combination of theme and genre.

(Also many warm thanks to those who short-listed me, especially to @Hugh for your very generous comments and your vote!)

Bowler1 sneezes as hayfever kicks in. A perfectly good flame thrower has been ruined, as I blow my nose, that's just not cricket. And what's worse, my RAY GUN has turned into a dozen red roses of all things.

Sneezing and sneezing, Bowler1 stomps off leaving a pretty trail of petals as he goes.

I like all of them, my long lost was officially everyone. I don't know if it's the subject matter that has caught everyone's imagination, or if it just makes most stories head in the kinds of directions I enjoy.

Shorter list is:
@jd73
@viraltwit
@SRDFrench
@AnRoinnUltra
@Mon0Zer0
@Peter V
@Cat's Cradle
@BT Jones
@chrispenycate
@Bowler1
@Wayne Mack
@mosaix
@OuttaInc
@Parson
@Lex E. Darion
@Elckerlyc - hear hear!
@therapist
@reiver33

I've been whittling them down somewhat based on what hits me in the feels first, then how well I felt they technically fulfil the brief second. Vote went to @OuttaInc Well done Chrons, thank you for my monthly flash fiction anthology!

29 votes cast and eight stories tied on two votes each. Unprecedented.

Congratulations to everyone for having such diverse tastes.

Did anyone else find it strange seeing all the likes on the entries?

Anyway...

Ones what I liked
Disappointing revelations: - @StilLearning
Know Your Enemy - @JS Wiig
With A Little Help No Task Is Futile - @Aknot
Upon Reflection... - @OuttaInc
Right Here…. - @Hugh
A Memory of Memories - @Parson
He’s Been Here Before! - @Lex E. Darion
Live Long and Fester? - @Ursa major

A close run thing between two similar stories, which I liked probably because I had the same idea after I'd already posted my entry :rolleyes:

Runner-up
The Grass Is Always the Same Colour… - @mosaix

Vote
Just Press Repeat - @SRDFrench

Oh, I just broke the tie! It is amazing to see the votes spread out like this. :)

Okay, my lists:

Shortlist:
Victoria Silverwolf, Bramandin, Hugh,

Semi-Finalists:
viraltwit, Luiglin, Guttersnipe, Outtalnc, Therapist

Vote:
It was between two:
Guttersnipe's very funny Top of the Barrel (great last line!), and Outallnc's sad Upon Reflection... (another great ending). And (the obvious line follows) upon reflection, I cast my vote for Outallnc, though it was very close. So many fine stories this month.

I want to thank BT Jones, Parson and StilLearning for the listings. And a surprised-but-pleased thanks to Stable for the vote - wow!

On a personal note, I want to say I have retired from the Improving our stories threads, and want to apologize for the terrible critiques I've done in the last 5-6 months. Stress can really build, and it manifested in those unfortunate posts. But of course everyone feels the stress of the last few years, and that's not a great excuse... more of an explanation.
Anyway, best of luck in the voting - I have no idea who will win this Challenge!

Sorry we seemed to have missed that. :oops: :oops:

Can I remind everyone not to use the like button on the challenge thread. We will ask you to remove it. If anyone notices a reaction to one of the entries, please report it.
Thank you

Hey CC, hope you are okay. I've always found your feedback to be honest, insightful, considered, constructed and given in as nice a way as possible. I've just read back over the feedback you've given in the last 6-12 months, and there's nothing in there that I can see that alters my opinion. And the number of 'likes' your posts in the 'feedback' section get confirm that.

Thankyou for the shortlistings Bowler1 and OuttaInc. I did struggle with this month's theme and genre, but it's great to see that lots of other entries obviously didn't.

Shortlist -
Starbeast - thought your entry was very funny.
jonnyjet - thought this was an imaginative, well written entry.

Winner is M.Robert Gibson, which was a neat entry and takes me back to my days of having a ZX Spectrum!:cool:

I tended to skew towards this humorous this month yet again. Not sure why this is happening. I guess my heart grew two sizes or something. :unsure:

I could've voted for any of these but had to make a call. Having learned BASIC myself in the 'old' days of computing put MRG in the lead.

Runners Up

@StilLearning - Disappointing revelations

@SRDFrench - Just Press Repeat

@Peter V - Eternal Afterlife of Pi

Vote

M. Robert Gibson - Going Loopy
