Indiana Jones And The Dial of Destiny (2023)

I put this on for some light entertainment during a flight. I rarely stop films once I’ve started but the CGI effects including Indie were so jarring I had to turn it off after 5 minutes. Crystal skull was poor and I had the impression this would be worse.

Crystal Skull was definitely the better film.

Ive seen the DVD for sale and I still have no desire whatsoever to see this film again.

I've just watched it for the first time, so can comment on it. As some of you say, it is Indiana by Numbers. While I agree with the criticisms already made, I do think it has some merit. I'm glad that I didn't bother to go to the cinema to watch it.

I wish I never bother with it at all.

Remember Indy for two great movies, with a better-than-average one in between. There are very few movie franchises that uphold tge quality beyond a trilogy.

The 4th film could have been better had they picked a different actor to play Mutt. This one does right could heave been the springboard for a new series of films.

Tried re-watching Last Crusade the other night - ugh. Plasticky looking sets, over the top acting, fan service backstory, a self righteous Jones. Couldn't do it.

The one thing you can never recapture is Jones' introduction - he seems like a bad guy for almost the first half of the film, and never fully recovers (leaving Marion in Nazi custody). The Raiders' Jones is a single minded, callous, violent, womanizer - and we love him for it.

True, and as silly as it was, I really enjoyed the beginning with the atom bomb and the fridge.

But the actual storyline with aliens and crystal skulls felt like it didn't fit into the ethos of an Indy movie.

I've said it before, but why on Earth they didn't make Fate of Atlantis into a movie when Ford was still a believable action movie hero I don't know. Great storyline, great sidekick, and a story that everyone can relate to. Also a brilliant ending (although similar in many respects to Last Crusade). To paraphrase Willie, it could've been his greatest adventure.

The opening was pretty , I wish friend Mac had not been a traitor, I like th character , the Atom bomb and the fridge bit was hysterical.

As for the Alien bit, they could have improved on it quite a bit.

As The Fate of Atlantis , Yes , thats the story everyone wanted . I would have loved to have seen that one but, done back in the 1990's a year or two after after Last Crusade because Ford would still liked young enough to play the part in WW II era.

In the world of 'Raiders' Indy is in a cut-throat world of Nazis and backstabbing rivals. Even his ex is a hard drinking, tough talking girl who is more than capable of standing up for herself. Being nice and noble only gets you dead.

I think the scene with the swordsman in tbe market place (and even the Nazi with the propellor) demonstrates that Indy can be pretty ruthless, but I never thought of him as being a bad guy.

Yes, there was no need for Mac to betray Indy. He knows Indy, and he knows what he's capable of, and they worked together. So to betray him for cash (rather than the ideal of Socialism for example) makes no sense. Donovan as a traitor yes, even Elsa - but not Mac.

Referring back to my last post, I thought the character of Garth could have been who Indy grew up to be. In fact, we are meant to think that Garth is Indy until he turns to face the camera.

The tbing is, Garth isn't an evil - not even a bad - charater. He seems to have a good relationship with his men, he means no real harm or ill will to young Indy, and even ends up admiring his pluck. It's just that he prefers to profit for his efforts. And when we consider what the US government does with historical artefacts, wjo can say that he is wrong?

I thought Garth had possibilities and would have like to have seen Garth and Indiana Jones meet up years later and have an adventure .:)

I'm glad it wasn't Garth he tried to retrieve the Cross from. Obviously the person he sold it to.

Yes, it would have been good for him to meet Garth at some stage, even as an old man whose adventuring days were now behind him.

In fact Richard Young who plays Garth (and looks incredibly similar to Harrison Ford) would have a good replacement for him.

Similar mannerism , yes, He could have Indiana Jones . I often wonder what the films would have been like had Tom Selleck had gotten to play the part.

The Temple of Doom had some memorable scenes though, such as the banquet. I feel more more memorable than Raiders other than some of the deaths towards the end.

The intro with the diamond, ice and antidote, then the inflatable raft was great too. It just felt that the story was weaker; perhaps because it was all set in mainly one location.
