DISCUSSION THREAD -- MAY 2023 -- 75 Word Writing Challenge

Judging from the number of entries, either a lot of people are holding back for a late entry, or like me, may be really struggling to put together something remotely coherent. I know some would say that hasn't stopped me in other months :X3:

My obsession with the 75 remains, so I have not given up yet

I was struggling to come up with an idea outside of the literal meaning... and, to extents, still failed :LOL:

Tough one this month.

I'm in. Better late than never.

I struggled this month but today being the 23rd concentrated my mind somewhat. As is nearly always the case with me I started out down a particular path but the very act of writing brought other ideas to mind. It would be interesting for me to save a copy as each change of idea comes to mind so I can trace the evolution of the story.

I had four different stories and was undecided about which to post — obsession is such a fertile theme (for me) I had to commit darlingcide

A tough challenge, but enjoyable.
I think it helps if you can enjoy the challenge and likely that reflects in the end result. I must admit I had to wrack my brains too much for an inkling of an idea and the product is something that feels too generic. Not sure why it was such a struggle, because I agree with Phyrebrat that the theme is indeed a fertile one. Just a shame he had to kill three of his darlings!

Well, I didn't expect to enter this month. Obsession drew an absolute blank.
But, being obsessed with challenges I had to enter something...

This challenge did not come easy for me either. I had no idea for a long time. I even talked it over with Mrs. Parson, says she: "Oh its like (Insert Grandchild's name here) and his tablet (games)." Bing! Bing! Bing! I was off and running, perhaps not well, but at least I got a fairly coherent story.

---------

@Far Stranger .... Shelagh .... A story at the intersection of obsession and callous indifference.

@mosaix .... Count Down .... A story of obsession and numerology.

@Peter V .... Commander Mike Harris: An Observation of Rational Inner Monologue Versus OCD .... A story of perfectly logical OCD, well mostly.

@Bren G .... An Obsession of Mythic Proportions .... A story which ponders the question of a fatal obsession.

@Ambrose .... A Warning .... A story which warns about knowing the future.

@M. Robert Gibson .... I wasted time, and now doth time waste me. .... A story of the results of obsession and hesitation.

@The Judge .... Conversations with a Writer ,,,, Hm, what shall we say, a story which hits too close to most of our habits.

@Elckerlyc .... To Err Is um… Universal .... A story of an aggravating correspondence between life forms.

This month I enjoyed:

@Victoria Silverwolf
@Astro Pen
@JS Wiig (although I do not believe mankind will ever reach the stars, I love the obsession)
@therapist (likeability can't be learned)
@johnnyjet
@Daysman
@Luiglin (I was planning to do a perfume-related piece, but this one beat me to it. I particularly love the idea of future archeologists digging up all our tat and wondering what we used it for)
@Phyrebrat
@Far Stranger

But my vote goes to @mosaix for his tale of murderous obsession. It put me in mind of something Poe would come up with (praise indeed!)

I ended up with a rather long Long List, so I cut it down to a rather longish Short List and my *** Favorite *** (which references the classic novel of obsession):
  1. The Cure - Victoria Silverwolf
  2. The Final Piece - THX1138
  3. That Boy from Beta Prime - Cat's Cradle
  4. The Toad Who Desired a Prince – emrosenagel
  5. Violent Delights - paranoid marvin
  6. Invisible - reiver33
  7. *** The Obsidian - Christine Wheelwright ***
  8. Cupid's Successor – Phyrebrat
  9. Shelagh - Far Stranger
  10. Count Down – mosaix

Grrrr! I've miscounted again and had my story removed. I guess that should teach me to stop tweaking the story after I've transferred it into this forum.
