WOW! you're really covering a good selection of writers there Steve, impressive....:)

Don't forget the Fantasy Masterwork series. They feature all of the Conan stories by Howard. Also Bison books have put out a lot of Howards stuff from the pulp magazines like Weird Tales and other mags of the time including unpublished work where he wrote across several Genres. Here's a link:

The Amber Wizard by David Forbes
The Thirteenth House by Sharon Shinn
Pretender by CjJ. Cherryh
Prince of Darkness by Sharon Kay Penman

I put *Pattern Recognition* on my Want List after I had it from the Library (just couldn't get into William Gibson earlier, but really enjoyed this one!) My sweetie bought this new in pb for me, also

*Household Gods* -- Judith Tarr & Harry Turtledove
*Alphabet of Thorn* -- Patricia A. McKillip
*The Buried Pyramid* -- Jane Lindskold
*Any Man So Daring* -- Sarah A. Hoyt
*Tooth and Claw* -- Jo Walton (another library pre-read; imagine a Jane Austen novel where the narrator and characters are all dragons! Very amusing!)

I also have his HDC copy of *Spin* by Robert Charles Wilson in my stack.

Secondhand pb:
*Jingo* and *Monstrous Regiment* -- Terry Pratchett
*Fool's Errand* -- Robin Hobb
*Confidence Game* -- Michelle Walsh
*Ilium* - Dan Simmons

I haven't read them all yet, so I'm a happy bibliovore here ...

Pattern Recognition is very good. I think I've got a review of it posted around here somewhere (on the main page reviews, I think, rather than on the Reviews board; it's been awhile since I wrote it). But I couldn't get into Household Gods. Maybe I'll try again at some point.

Anyway...my latest haul, from last week:

Earth: An Intimate History, by Richard Fortey
The Origin of Species, by Charles Darwin, which I found in a nice trade paperback edition for only $7.95.

I got a Maggie Furey book - forget what it's called, David Gemmell - Legend (to re-read), something by someone else I can't remember... Jean something... about people in the ice age or something....yeah I have a terrible memory! But they all looked good!

If that's Jean Auel, her books are a series starting with Clan of the Cave Bear. That was the best book in the series.

Recently hit a Barnes & Noble remnant sale. Picked up a new Webster's Dictionary, Colleen McCullough's The October Horse, Midnight Harvest by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, and Pompeii by Robert Harris. The last 3 were all hardcover and under $7.00 each.

Yeah that's her! I got Clan of the Cave Bear. What do you think of the rest of them?

Ooh! You lucky thing you! I was still pleased with £7.99 as it was around £29.99 to begin with - it's always worth waiting.

This is why I hadn't replaced my ruined and torn volume (kids eh?) of The Lord of the Rings until now, the boxed sets just shot up in price after the films so I bided my time and ended up getting them for a relatively bargain price.

xx

That's what I am waiting for also Ada...:)

Had to climb a ladder to get hold of an old issue of Janny Wurt's Shadowfane from the Cycle of Fire series. It is in really good condition and I only had to pay AU$4 for it. :)

The Thralls Tale by Judith Lindbergh
Vintage PKD by Philip K. Dick
The Book of Skulls by Robert Silverberg

Sabriel - Garth Nix
Lirael - Garth Nix
Abhorsen - Garth Nix
The Creature in the Case - Garth Nix

i was a bit of a late starter on that trend, but i have to say i loved all of the books, and i've got my eye on the first 3 of the 7 keys to the kingdom books on ebay.

Some of these hauls look familiar :)
Just bought Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen as well as the boxed Lord of the Rings + companion.
I went on an Anne McCaffrey buying spree too - Hall of Pern trilogy, Nerilka's story, Chronicles of Pern First Fall, and Dragon's Kin.

Wait, is Sabriel by Nix part of a series? No where on the book I have does it say that. Maybe inside, but I haven't started it yet....

Yep it's part of the trilogy which also includes Lirael and Abhorsen. It's the first book. A decent read but not as good as his Keys to the Kingdom series.

there are technically 4 books. the creature in the case is also part of the lariel series, but it is a much much shorter book. follows the story of ... is it nicholas sayer (cant remember now i read it a while ago) the scientist kid.

its not technically a novel, but i nice read if you've read the others :)
